Peters, a pilot for Det. 4, 40th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery son, David, Squadron, and his ld y recently had an opportunity to practice of level Francis rescue at the 10,000-foPeak, five miles east of Kaysville. WHILE HUNTING for mule deer Oct. 27, Lieutenant Peters and his son discovered two men who were severely injured after rolling their jeep over a canyon wall. Lieutenant Peters did not hesitate to descend the rocky, debris-strew- n canyon wall to go to the aid of off-dut- Lieutenant Peters administered as much first aid as possible, then climbed back up the canyon to telephone for professional rescue assistance from Det. 4 and the local sheriff's ot Det. 4 search and rescue crew, Lieutenant Peters and his son assisted pararescue specialists, Sgt. David A. Vogele and SSgt. Lynn E. Vinzant, in splinting broken arms and preparing the victims for Stokes litter evacuation in a Life Flight helicopter which and crew. was on scene with the Det. 4 UH-lBoth injured men were evacuated to the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. The doctor who treated the injured men upon their arrival stated that Lieutenant Peters' LIEUTENANT Peters was informed that helicopter rescue was enroute, he and his son returned to the scene and cleared a landing site. After the arrival of the prompt, professional and unselfish actions "contributed immensely" to saving the lives of the two victims.
