Show Page HILL TOP TIMES 2 November 18, 1977 On to Air Force competition sirs a "Nature's Umbrella" by Maj. Ronald L. Grotbeck and "You Are On My Mind" and "Dana's Flowers" bv CaDtain Smith. Category D - Experimental: Captain Smith and Major n claimed all honors in this Sullivan from category as follows: 1st Place: "Logs" by Captain Smith; 2nd Place: "Torso" and 3rd Place: "Stretch" by Major Sullivan. Captain Smith also captured the two Honorable Mention spots with "X Marks the Spot" and "Jay." Boyd Tate, base photo hobby shop, announces the winners of the recent Air Force Logistics Command photography contest held at Hill AFB on Oct. 21, 22. Wright-Patterso- Judges were Arland Hammon, owner of a Kaysville studio; Harold Carpenter, an instructor in photography at the Art Center School in Salt Lake City and a specialist in audio-visuphotography and Joseph Gill. All three are members of the Association of the Photographic Society of America. GROUP III - TRANSPARENCIES Category A - General Photography: "Autumn Bearberry" by Sgt. Nancy J. Smith of Hill AFB won an Honorable Mention. All other honors were won by the photographers from Wright-Patterso- n AFB as follows: 1st Place: "Ohio River Traffic" by Capt. John W. Sheehan; 2nd Place: "Maid of the Mist" by Maj. Len Stoll; 3rd Place: "Apples on a School Desk" by 1st Lt. Claire E. English; Honorable Mention: "The Celebration" by Sgt. Frederick J. Borck and "12 at Home" by Captain Sheehan. al GROUP II COLOR PRINTS 1st Place: "Fan-tasylanby Captain Niles; 2nd Place: "Color In Flight" by AFB, TSgt. Wayne W. Reffner, both from Wright-Patterso- n Ohio. 3rd Place: "A Day at the Races" by Sgt. Stewart E. Gregory, McClellan AFB, Calif. Major Sullivan, Wright-Patterso- n AFB, also grabbed two Honorable Mention spots with "Water Lily" and "Coke Truck Venice Style." Sgt. Harry J. Griffin, Robins AFB, Ga., was named third Honorable Mention winner for his "Monarch." Category All photos in the contest were first judged "winners" in contests at each Air Logistic Center and were forwarded to Hill for the AFLC competition. Winners in this contest were entered in the Air Force contest conducted on Nov. 16 at Hill AFB. GROUP I - MONOCHROME PRINTS Category A - General Photography: 1st Place: "The Last by Capt. Richard B. Smith; 2nd Place: "Cape Florida Lighthouse" by Maj. Thomas F. Daniels; 3rd Place: "Stairs to Nowhere" by Capt. Richard B. Smith; Honorable Mention: "Shells and Coral" by Maj. John J. Sullivan and "Forest Floor" by Capt. John R. Niles. All are from Wright-Patterso- n - A - General Photography: d" People: Two people from Hill AFB placed in this category. "Get Him" by MSgt. Glen L. Snell gained a 3rd Place standing and "Touchdown" by MSgt. Allen B. Russell received Honorable Mention. Again, the shutterbugs from Wright-Patterso- n proved their prowess with the camera. 1st Place: "Charles River Crew" by Captain Sheehan; 2nd Place: "The Camp Followers" by Captain Smith; Honorable Mention: "Aunt Grace" by Captain Smith and "Contemplation" by 2nd Lt. David S. M. Glasebrook. Category B B-7- 0" AFB, Ohio. Category B - People: Captain Smith claimed top honors with the three winners in this category. There were: 1st Place: "The Last Rifleman"; 2nd Place: "Louise"; 3rd Place: "A Mighty Blacksmith." Honorable Mention went to: "A Beginning" by TSgt. William R. Milligan, Hill AFB; "Sleeping" by Maj. John J. Sullivan; "Girl on a Bridge" by n AFB. Capt. John R. Niles, both from Category B - People: Sergeant Gregory, McClellan AFB, grabbed the two top places for his "A Face In A Crowd" and "My Little Girl," while Major Sullivan, Captain Smith and Sergeant Reffner grabbed the rest of the honors. 3rd Place went to "The Fish Vendor" by Major Sullivan; Honorable Mention went to "The Flying McKinney" by Sergeant Reffner; "Newborn Girl" by Captain Smith and "Window Shoppers" by Major Sullivan. Category C - Scenic : Cameras at Hill AFB snapped the big winners in this category while those at Wright-Patterso- n closely followed. 1st Place: "Rimshot" by SSgt. Michael L. Cole; 2nd Place: "McKinley River" by Sergeant Smith and Honorable Mention "Fireset" by Sergeant Cole were the Hill winners. 3rd Place: "Night Falls" by Maj. Len Stoll and Honorable Mention "South Pacific Sunset" by SSgt. David J. Suhoski and "The Backs" by Capt. John W. Sheehan were the best from Wright-Patterso- Category C - Scenic: Photographers from Wright-Patterso- n AFB and McClellan AFB garnered all honors in this category, as follows: 1st Place: "Main Street, Venice" by Major Sullivan; 2nd Place: "Desert Oasis" by Sergeant Reffner; 3rd n. Place: "Painted Desert" by Captain Niles. Honorable Mention: "Covered Bridge 1" by Captain Smith and "Faraglioni Capri" by Major Sullivan. All these winners are from the Ohio Wright-Patterso- Category D Wright-Patterso- base. From McClellan, Honorable Mention went to "The Canyon Tree" and "The Desert Tree" by Sergeant Gregory. Category D - n AFB Experimental: Again, was the winner. 1st Place: "Girl Hurdler" by Major Sullivan; 2nd Place: "In The Beginning" by Sergeant Reffner; 3rd Place: "Blue Nude" by Maior Sullivan: Honorable Mention: Niles. I - Experimental: Again, the cameras found the right shutter speed and were the big winners with Sergeant Cole of Hill AFB capturing a 2nd Place for "Guiding Light" and an Honorable Mention for "Why Me Lord?" Captain Sheehan took 1st Place for his "Farm Bureau" while Capt. Robert J. Sallee took 3rd Place for "Golden Symmetry." "Planters" by Capt. Raymond A. Vitkus and "Down Through the Sun" by Captain Smith received -- n AFB again claimed Category C - Scenic: all honors in this category with the following winners: 1st Place: "Sentinels" by Maj. Thomas F. Daniels; 2nd Place: "Organ Fountain Tivoli" by Major Sullivan; 3rd Place: "Pioneer Home" by Captain Smith; Honorable Mention: "Abram's Falls" by Captain Smith; "Winter Bleak 77" by Lt. Col.
