Show Page October 14, 1977 HILL TOP TIMES 18 Hill Judo Club-sm- In 1972, the Hill Judo Club 15 students, one a small, borrowed instructor, mat and a space in the base gym. started with Today, the club has grown to 270 students and over five instructors with Black Belt status. It has its own "Dojo" classroom in Bldg. 379, equipped with mats and other equipment. The club travels over the Western states to participate in about 15 tournaments each year. It also hosts three of its own. The Hill Judo Club has produced three national champions and numerous state and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic champions from the ranks of Friday, Oct. local boys and girls who have taken up the sport. Judo is an Olympic sport that is often mistaken , for Karate and Kung Fu. Unlike those skills, judo involves no striking, hitting or kicking and is more like a form of wrestling.
