Training ana education programs were established by this Order and agencies had to provide fast, fair and impartial consideration for all complaints. Career counseling was also made available for all employes. In March 1972, this Order was strengthened by Public Law Again, we gained in 1974 when Public Law The Fair Labor Standards Act, also added "age" to the unfair treatment list. In addition, this Law provided us with the ability to "try" complaints on age discrimination in a civil action in any Federal district court. Air Force policy and procedures for the EEO programs are found in Air Force Regulation As President Ford said in a memo on 6 March 1975, By Theresa M Breski After the Civil War, the Civil Rights Act of 1866 started the shift toward equal treatment for all people. However, since the Act was passed, through the years Federal employes with complaints of discrimination have complained through the Personnel Office, the Inspector General or Union representatives. 93-25- 92-26- And basically, the policy for Federal employes provided 4 v 1. 40-71- equal opportunity through various executive orders, especially after the Civil Rights Act of 1964. But in August 1969, Executive Order 11478 restated, "You will not treat any employe unfairly because of his or her color, national origin, sex, religion, or race." And each Federal agency became obligated to establish EEO programs in all areas 1 :fetf it started n 9, 3. "Equal employment opportunity doesn't just happen. . ." Knowing your rights under the law can bring about equal employment opportunity for you. Next, I will cover the Affirmative Action Program in EEO. Theresa M.
