TOP TIMES July 23. 1976 AFLC MEWS SUMMARY Encourages Safe Flying On, Off Job aviation, that giant category of little to middle-sizeaircraft, is enjoying what somejndustry sources call a speed limits on major boom. Motivated by the double-nickl- e highways, or by circuitous airline connections to destinations, thousands who only use their pilot's licenses for impressing people in public pubs now are using them again for flying. Air Force Logistics Command (AFLC) flying safety officials are encouraging safe flying, both on and off the job. They offer ten ways to fly safer: General CHAMPUS Guidance Affect ' Inpatients Service hospitals are setting up procedures to appeal reqVfests. This is a result of new Department of Defense policy guidance. This change will also allow making nonavailability statements valid for 60 days when a patient needs multiple visits for treatment. Nonavailability-statementvalid for 12 months may now be issued for chronic conditions, such as cancer, requiring continuous care. Patients restricted to bed will not have to appear at a service hospital to get a nonavailability statement if the doctor certifies the person is confined to bed. Hospital commanders have been encouraged to set up procedures to request nonavailability statements by phone or letter. ft:iiiPUS s Alcohol Task Group Releases Results -- Air Force has approved recommendations from a recent ad task group on alcohol abuse.
