AFA March Charles Sehulx PEANUTS Deserves Your Support "On Feb. 4, 1969, the Air Force Association completed 23 years as a group united in their desire for maintaining adequate aerospace power for national security and world peace." So says Maj. Gen. Robert H. McCutcheon, Ogden AMA commander, in a letter promoting the current AFA membership drive. General McCutcheon, 1969 Honorary Membership Chairman for the Utah Air Force Association, is adding his support to the campaign to double T HEAR GOOD SAIP ABOUT ( I SAVINGS BONDS. General McCutcheon noted that the Utah AFA is an organization worthy of support through membership and participation in the numerous activities programmed during the year which include: The Annual Aerospace Symposium and Educational Seminar, Logistics Symposia, awards programs to civilian and military members of our logistics team and the many highly informative chapter programs. The $7 annual membership fee entitles you to the Air ForceSpace Digest which is considered one of the best publications in its field. Your membership in AFA will also afford you the opportunity of associating with people vitally interested in the Air Force mission and Hill Air Force Rase, the general said. World's Worst Killer Judge Cornell McKay Jensen, who officiates at Clearfield City traffic court, is a dedicated leader in the war against traffic accidents. The judge emphasizes the enormous tragedy of needless traffic deaths and points out to local drivers that the traffic accident is the world's worst killer. In the next 10 years, the judge says, 700,000 people will meet death on the highway, according to predictions. That means that if the present accident rate continues, one out of two children born today will be injured or killed in traffic accidents. Personalize that fact, if you will. That means that half of your children or grandchildren will become traffic casualties. Judge Jensen quotes from an article by Earl Nightingale that would be well for every driver in the area to hear and understand. In a recent broadcast of "Our Changing World," Mr. Nightingale stated: "If all of last year's accidents had occurred at once, the first paragraph of the newspaper account would have read something like this: , "Nearly 50,000 persons were killed and more than three million injured in a highway smashup. Damages and other losses are expected to exceed $8 billion." "This imaginary news story describes the terrible and terrifying dimensions of the traffic safety problem. The tragedy is that traffic accidents are not accidental at all. They are caused and thus are a senseless waste of lives and property, which need never have happened. "Clearly, traffic laws are frequently broken not by people who don't care if they kill or injure, or who have contempt for authority . . . but by the average motorist. "Somehow, we've got to get across to people that breaking a traffic law has to be put in the same category because that's how as robbery or attempted murder it works out. "In vour mind's eye. If so, the following information will be of benefit. The ETA as received from Base Operations is the estimated time the aircraft is to be over, the radio fix serving Hill AFB; i.e., the Ogden VORTAC (Very High Frequency Omni Directional Range Tactical Air Navigation) facility, some five to seven minutes before the aircraft will actually land. This ETA is predicated on the concept that the aircraft will actually use this fix Col. Alston for a let down. Capsule Law A person cannot do unreasonable things on his own land that annoy, or cause discomfort or inconvenience to others. If he does, he commits a nuisance. The person who illegally conducts a business or holds noisy meetings, pollutes the air or water, commits a public nuisance. Conviction can mean a fine and jail. There are also private nuisances. Barking dogs, constant burning of rubbish or spraying of paint, may unintentionally interfere with a neighbor's enjoyment of his own land. The injured neighbor can go into court to put a stop to this if the actions are unreasonable. In our crowded society, we up with some neighborly discomforts. N o one can stop all minor irritations.
