Show May 13, HILL TOP TIMES Tact 14 New Chapel Kitchei Open At Hill AFB OPEN HOMES AND HEARTS Ten Families 'Adopt' Indian Children Next Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Merle Page will put their "son" on a bus and send him off to an Indian reservation at Shiprock, New Mexico. The lad, a Navaho boy, will be returning- to his real parents. The Pages just "borrowed" him for the last nine months.. The Tages are one of approximately 300 families in this area who have "adopted" Indian children for the school year. They take them into their homes and treat them like their own children," providing them with food and clothing-ansending them to school. It is part of a program sponsored by the Latter-da- y Saint's Relief Society to help the Indian students gain an education and better equip themselves for life. Of the 100 families in this area who are foster parents for Indian children, 30 percent of them are employed at Hill AFB. Ten Hill employees have opened up their homes and their hearts to the Indian youngsters. Will Miss Lad Merle, who is an electronic equipment specialist in IM-0Bomarc, Materiel Management, says they are really going to miss their Indian son, George. The Indian youth has been a Fourth Grader at the school at West Point whore the Page family lives. The four Tage children will miss their "brother", too. They have enjoyed many experiences together during the past year. Sure to miss him the most will be Merle's 11 year-old son, Craig. "Craig and George, had a 'me ami my shadow' relationship all year," Merle said. "Being the same age they got along fine together.
