THE GOLDEN TWENTIES Ne-pi- Of Tax .Changes On Agenda SALT LAKE CITY When the Utah legislature assembles on Monaay, January 8, it will find itself faced with a comnlex rjroblem as to what to do about the Utah individual income tax. According to Tax Commission chairman Pat-ri- c Healy Jr., this problem will be made difficult for a number of reasons: (1) The national congress, it now appears certain .will demote much attention to the income tax field. Income taxes are already the main source of revenue to the federal government. Federal rates reached an high immediately following World War II; and while there was some aDnarer.t disposition to lighten the burden on the taxpayer in recent vpars. nil such good intentions went by the Doara with the communist invasion of South Korea, and tho init iation of a policy, which seems to be favored by both Republicans and Democrats, of strengthening me aeiense or the nation. (2) The Utah voters in 1946 de voted all the proceeds of Utah taxes based on income to the sunnort of the public school system of the state. It revenue from inoorrn taxes is lowered below thp nop.k of the schools, the difference can De maae up by a legislative appropriation from surplus, in the state's general fund. (3) The state tax commission, which bas been studvino- thp in come laws of this and other states over a period of years nas several changes in the Utah individual income tax act. Summarized, these recommendations read: "The individual income tax act (should) be rewritten in keeping with the income tax law. and to provide for a tax on who are doing business here in Utah ,and to permit credits for income taxes paid in other states." Arguments in support ol these recommendations are carried in the bienr.ial report of the tax 1951 all-ti- SUNDAY AND MONDAY ANN BLYTH FARLEY GRANGER JOAN EVANS photograph of Stake Pr?s:dency and high council taken December TUESDAY - WEDNESDAY 3, 1950; Samples of work by stuAND THURSDAY dents of various grades of Nephi BETTY HUTTON of school; Samples Elententaiy HOWARD KEEL of Juab work done by students KEENAN WYNN high school; Souvenler copies of Fair prem ium list, Ute Stampede rodeo, and Levan baseball tournament; Tele phone directory for this area; Program of 27th convention of Utah State Co.
