Down Mi awn 3e4 l(.Q J -By INEZ RIDING Dear Abbie: I received your last letter and now I can't find It. This weekend has been rather like a nightmare. First of all, that darned Glen Crawford has been ringing our phone every hour wanting to make sure that I have his ad copy right. He wants to hire out as a tourist guide. His ad is in this week's paper. He'd be a good one. He knows a lot of things. He thinks he'd make more guiding tourists than he can on his farm. He just might be right, too. Unless he's a chicken man! Chicken people have it made now cause the Department of Agri- Large Timber Sale Offering The Targhee National Forest, St. Anthony, Idaho, is offering for sale a large block of overmature lodgepole pine threatened by the mountain pine bark beetle. This timber sale was announced this week by Regional Forester Floyd Iverson of the Intermountain Region Re-gion of the Forest Service In Ogden, Utah. Located in the plateau country of the Targhee National Forest, 30 miles northeast of Ash-ton, Ash-ton, Idaho, the proposed sale consists con-sists of 150 million board feet of timber. "An increase in harvest is needed need-ed to remove old overmature timber tim-ber and to slow the spread of a mountain pine bark beetle epidemic epidem-ic in the 85,0O0-acre sale area." said Regional Forester Floyd Iverson. Iver-son. "The harvest will take place over a six-year period," said Mr. Iverson. "This relatively short cutting cut-ting time will have the maximum effect in reducing the spread of the insect attack." Full information concerning the timber, the conditions of sale, and the submission of bids should be obtained from the Ashton or Porcupine Por-cupine District Rangers, Ashton, Idaho; the Forest Supervisor, St.. Anthony, Idaho; or the Regional Forester, Ogden, Utah. No Waiting to Join the Navy The Navy has announced that no longer will young man have to wait to be enlisted in the Navy. Mali Coupon 317 South Main Street - culture has taken their side in the growing battle of beef vs. chicken in weiners. I'm hopeful the we'll soon be able to go into a grocery store and pluck a chickendog right off the shelf. For some reason the idea of chickendog appeals greatly to me. It may be the word itself. It kinda rolls off the tongue in a babbling-brook sort of way, doesn't It? Of course the whole thing may fall through and we'll continue to live without chickendogs for a few more years. I hear the chicken people are up In arms about having to take second place honors to cow people In labeling the new product. As of now the cow people's lobby in Washington, D. C. is stronger than the chicken people's lobby and has been able to convince con-vince most of Congress that the label should read "Beef, Beef Products. Pro-ducts. Chicken added." Chicken people want the label to read "Chicken. Chicken parts. With Beef." I don't know how it's going to end but it Is surely refreshing to have a brand new battle shaping shap-ing up in Congress! I'm so tired of reading about their serious and and grave words on campus riots, demonstrations, divorces, poverty and such. I really am. I was in hopes that something dramatic would be forthcoming about Viet Nam. Guess it was wistful thinking think-ing on my part. But as I said I'm glad that we have a new issue to grab the headlines. The battle of cow vs chicken is a good one. Did you hear about the speech that one of Utah's representatives made the other day? It lasted four and a half hours and was mostly about some of today's problems and in the course of his speech he just happened to mention the cow vs chicken battle. The last hour of his speech was on the virtures of the cow (or beef?). Congressmen Congress-men Burton used beautiful adject- tives and marvelous metaphors and things like that m his speech. Oh, it was dandy from all I've heard. Well, he had hardnosed Congress men bawling all over the place with his beautiful speech. Appar ently this was more than Utah's Congressman Lloyd could stand so he jumped to his feet and ask in no uncertain terms for Congress man Burton to yield so that he could extoll the chicken. Sherm would know his chickens all right enough. Forgot to find out if Burton Bur-ton yielded or not. But isn't it all exciting? Progress is just wonder ful and bless that Deparment of Agriculture once more for showing us all the way to greater things, I say. Got an idea for a good project but don't know if I'll be able to sell it to any organization or not. As you kow I was one of four mothers working the Junior Prom Supper last Friday night. When we arrived at the lunch center we got to push all the extra chairs and tables around three walls and some of the tables we had to turn bottom side up on others to make room. Imagine our surprise to find lots of gum stuck to the bottoms of the tables. Our little darlings have been right busy with their gum. Anyway, I would like to see an organization, or maybe just a group, call a fun meeting. We could scrape the gum off the tables and off the floor and scrub up those chair again and install some new drapery hooks so that those lovely drapes would hang straight once more. Two of us scrubbed the tops of the tables that were used and sixty-four of the chairs. Some of the chairs were so gooped up that we used chore-girls! chore-girls! Anyway, once we scrubbed everything then maybfe the same group could go in every month for a similir fun party. How long has it been since you put your hand on a piece of gum stuck to the underneath side of a table? My word. What a horrible feeling! I'll let you know how Glen's search for work turns out and also the fun work party idea. As ever, Iz THINK UTAH I Utah has led the nation for many years in the number of scientists produced per capita, exceeding the next nearest state, New Hampshire, by more than a third.
