Darrel Scow spent a few days In Prcvo, visiting Kent and Sandra Dewsnup. Evah Conk entertained the Des-eret Des-eret P.ook Club at her home Wednesday Wed-nesday night. A nice lunch was served, and the rest of the evening even-ing was spent playing Rook. A family party honoring John Henry Western on his 90th birthday, birth-day, was held in the ward recreation recre-ation hall Saturday night. AU of his sons and daughters and a large crowd of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, were in attendance. Two long tables were set with a beautiful birthday cake and a centerpiece cen-terpiece of flowers on them. Everybody Ev-erybody enjoyed the lunch of salads, sal-ads, sandwiches, cakes and home made ice cream. A very entertaining entertain-ing program was given after the lunch. Belva Morris was master of ceremonies. Orme and Jean Allred sang a duet. Sharilyn Hardy and Marcia Talbot gave a cute dance. Karolyn Morris read a humorous letter. Darrell and Birdie Lou All-red All-red sang a duet. Russell Talbot played a trumpet solo. Merrill Moody Moo-dy played several beautiful pieces Ladies' . . . The main feature of the evening was an Easter parade put on by all the sons-in-law and some of the grandsons. It was really good, and we all enjoyed that very much. Sunday afternoon and evening about 175 people called call-ed at the home to visit Dad and wish him Happy Birthday, He surely sure-ly enjoyed seeing so many friends and relatives. Sheldon and Stanley and families, fam-ilies, and Lowell and Lillian Moo? dy and children, from Salt Lake, were there. , Garth and Eleanor Bishop and family, also, came from Salt Lake, Ina Rae Roper and sons, from Logan, came for the party, and visited with us for a week, Darrell and Birdie Lou Allred and children, were here from Provo. Edna and Pat Patterson were here from San Francisco, Calif. Bertha and George Barton and sons came from Mldvale, It was really a wonderful time for all of us. Monday night, we all met over home and cut the Birthday Birth-day cake and visited. President June Black and Thelma came and spent the evening with us, Arthur Palmer and friend and Louise Clothier, from Las Vegas, came to see Dad on his birthday, but couldn't stay for the party, Church News Tuesday night, In Mutual, Kar-ene Kar-ene Davis and Elaine Moody gave their speeches for the speech con test. They were both very good and presented well. Karene was chosen to go to the Stake Contest. DeLora Conk, Nancy Black, and Gloria Allred, sang a trio, and Marilyn Warnick and Francis Black sang a duet. Brother Alma Western from the Stake Board, visited Sunday School. Talks were given by Duane Jensen Jen-sen and Gloria Allred. High Councilman, Thomas Pratt, furnished the program for Sacrament Sacra-ment meeting. Talks were given by Clyde Maxfield, Cloyd Tolbert and Thomas Pratt. Chloe Alldredge sang two numbers. We attended the Testimonial for Paul Damron in Hinckley Sunday night and enjoyed that very much. He is entering the mission home next Monday. I am sure he will make a fine missionary. When we help others, we help ourselves, also. Mrs. Kenneth Nielson and four daughters spent Thursday in Salt Lake City shopping. Mr. and Mrs. Bud McCan drove to Black Rock Sunday for their Nieces Birthday dinner at the Wil-ley Wil-ley Lovell home. Mrs. Welby Lovell came home Saturday after spending a week in the Nephi hospital convalescing from pneumonia. Miss Lapriel Lovell Lov-ell was home from school in St. George for the weekend. Her boy friend, Mr. Arnold Ashby spent th.; weekend at the Lovell home. Miss Janet Nelson and a friend, foe Lang spent the weekend with Janet's parents, Mr. and Mrs, Jay Nelson. Tuesday night the Oasis ward presented their three act play at the Leamington ward hall. It was excellent entertaainment and enjoyed en-joyed by all who attended. Saturday night a cast consisting of our local talents, namely Welby Lovell, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Nielson, Nila Jean Johnson, Sally Nlelson and Kenneth Lovell presented "Aron Slick from Punkin Creek". They were all In rare performance Director of the play was Mrs. Edith Harder, stage manager was Burton Hanson. Instrumental music was furnished by five Jr, High boys under direction of Mrs. Wilma Lovell. Lov-ell. Dancing in the play was under the direction of Mrs. Walker Fin-llnson Fin-llnson and Kay Nlelson and done by five teen age girls, The play will go to Lynndyl this Thursday and to Oasis on Friday. Mrs. Norma Nielson and daughters daugh-ters drove to Provo Friday to shop, Miss Joan Bradfield and Ineu Nielson were home from their jobs In Salt Lake City for the1 weekend. Mr, and-Mrs, John M, Nielson went to Provo Thursday n business. Several High Priests and partners part-ners went to Delta for the Stake High Priests Party. Among the honored hon-ored guests were Benjamin Lovell, Wra. J, Finlinson, Wm, Bradfield and Joseph T. Finlinson. Mr, Grant Nlelson went to Wyoming Thursday and stayed a few days on business, Mr. Axel Johnson caught his hand In the worm of his grain elevator last Monday. He had to have several sev-eral stitches taken but Is doing fine, Sunday night Sacrament meeting program was given by Stake Miss ionaries, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Gardner. Gard-ner. They both gave excellent talks and a piano solo was played by Nancy Nielson. Prayers were offered offer-ed by Jerald Lovell and Wm. Brad- field, Mrs. Edith Harder went into Salt Lake City Monday to get make up and supplies for the M.I.A. play. Mr. and Mrs, Clinton Nielson and two boys visited In Salt Lake City Thursday and Friday with Mrs. Clara Adams and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Holman, school vacation days visiting at Springville with her brother, Paul and family aaj at Pleasant Crove with her brother, Hrold and family. Mr. and Mrs. Merton Lovell and baby spent the weekend visiting" in Oal! City, while Mr. and Mrs. Orrln Finlinson and family visited from Payson. Kent and Darla Starley visited in Oak City Saturday and Sunday from Salt Lake City. Bishop Don Anderson has been called to serve a mission to the East Central States. We will miss him, but are happy to have him represent re-present Oak City again in the mission mis-sion field. Mrs. Rhea Gardner from the USU gave a very Interesting talk on "Home Management" March 12 at the Relief Society room. All enjoyed this talk. Larry Shipley and Beverly Cal-die Cal-die spent the weekend with his parents. His father, Ivan Shipley went back to Salt Lake City with them for a couple of days visit. Three or Jour car loads of Oak City people went to Manti Temple Thursday. Scouts and Explorers had an outing out-ing swimming at Ephraim. Marvin Lovell, Austin Lovell, Myron Christ-ensen Christ-ensen were with the boys. Mr. and Mrs. Burnis Finlinson are home again after a week visiting vis-iting in California. Oak City people enjoyed the comedy com-edy three act play "Down Yonder" Tuesday night by the Sutherland Ward. The cast did very fine and laughs from the audience expressed their appreciation of this play. Come again Sutherland. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Stevenson and Mrs. Lydia Evans visited with their brother, Collier Lovell who is confined to his bed most of the time since he fell a short time FIDELITY CLUB HEARS REPORT ON BOOK! BY LOWELL THOMAS The Im'.'es rf the Flc!c-!"y Chi' were entertained by Eila Black Thursday evening. Dinner was served serv-ed 'at' Hatch's Cily Cafe, after which the group went to the Black home. The remainder of the evening even-ing was spent in listening to the book report, "History As You Heard It," by Lowell Thomas, given by Inez Moody. It was enjoyed very much. Those present were Hannah Lar-sen, Lar-sen, Vivian Holman, Donna Soren-son, Soren-son, Pearl Snow, Ava Starley, Dorothy Dor-othy Gardner, Ora Gardner, Clara Killpack,, Leatha Bennett, Thelma Black, Inez Moody, and Ella Black. The Homemakers Club will meet Monday, March 23, 8:00 p.m., at the County Office building. The program will be given by Leona Works on Easter decorations. All members are urged to be present. ago. Mrs. May Anderson visited with them at Collier's place. Miss Mary Jean Lovell spent last week visiting in Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Sherriff and Evan took their daughter, Margaret Mar-garet and baby Coleen back as far as Las Vegas, Nevada, where she met her husband, Larry Densley and they went on to their home at Elmcnte California. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Alldredge while in Las Vegas. PFC 2 C Laverl and Ann Jackson were visitors with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Jackson, a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were enroute to Fort Ord, Calif., from Fort Leonard Leon-ard Wood, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Riding enjoyed en-joyed visits from some of their children and grandchildren with the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Max Riding and young son, Dean and Mr. and Mrs. Louis F. Both gave interesting talks Joyce talked about her life before coming to Oak City, and there grew a garden sown with either good or bad seeds. Paul's talk took the word of wisdom for his subject. Both talks were interesting. The Choir sang a new anthum. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Lovell and daughter, Roberta went to Wen-dover Wen-dover Sunday night to the testimonial testi-monial for Harry Wind who leaves soon for his mission. Mrs. Margaret Roper spent her daughters, Vicki Lyn and Lou Ann, from Ely, Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fullmer and four children, from Green River, Utah, and Dale Riding and girl friend, from Salt Lake City. Sacra-mento. Making the trip with them from Delta were Mrs. Deona Black and daughter, Pauline, and Mrs. George Church. In California they visited Mr. and Mrs. Jim Church at San Francisco, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Skidmore at Walnut Creek and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Church at Canoga Park. Mrs. Church remained there for a longer visit with her son Ray and family. They also visited vis-ited at Gardena with Mr. and Mrs. Haden Cliureh, who took the visitors vis-itors deep sea fishing. On the way home another visit was made at San Bernadino with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eastwood, sister and brother-in-law of Mr. Teichert. The Sunshine club met at the ! home of Lydia Evans for their last f; ice i:; ';. Fourteca ui .-raters and four guests were present. The guests were Marva Whiting, daughter daugh-ter of Mrs. Evans and three friends, Netta Sorensen, Helen Reynolds and Georgia Plumbee. President, Cathrine Riding was in charge of the meeting. After reading the minutes min-utes of the last meeting, a potted plant was presented to Mina Steel-; by members of the club to show their appreciation for providing transportation. Trena Gronning and Nora Knight gave interesting reports on their trips. After the reports, refreshments refresh-ments were served by the hostess.
