Helta Garden June Wetldiny Club Meeting Mr. and Mrs. Verdon Davis, of Deseret, are announcing the engagement en-gagement of their daughter, Joan, and Richard Workman, son of Mr. ami Mrs. George Mason, of Salt Lake City. A June weddnig is planned. plan-ned. Miss Davis was graduated from Hinckley high school, and attended the BAC at Cedar City, for a year, where she was a member of two sororities, and played with the girls basketball team, division winners win-ners that year. She has been employed em-ployed in Salt Lake for the past year with the credit bureau. Mr. Workman was graduated from West high school in Salt Lake City, and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He is now employed by the Union Pacific railroad. After their wedding the young couple will make their home in Salt Lake City. Delta Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Donetta Hardy Mon-1 Mon-1 flay night for a May Day party. Each member brought a May Day : basket decorated with flowers from her own garden. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Adl eline Jei'fery and Mrs. Maxine Bishop Bis-hop for the most artistic arrangements. arrange-ments. Mrs. Jeffery's basket featured feat-ured iris and garden vegetables, dyed and curled to resemble flowers. flow-ers. Mrs. Bishop's display was of pansies. Flower garden borders were discussed dis-cussed and Mrs. Hardy gave the history of garden vegetables. House j plants were given as door prizes. Next meeting will be in Black Rock at the home of Mrs. Merrill Miller on June 14. All members are invited to bring their husbands as special guests, and they will entertain them at a basket picnic. Edwin P. Works, of Delta was taken to the Fillmore L.D.S' hospital hos-pital Monday for medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Stapley drove to Salt Lake City the fore part of the week on business. Is Hostess To t o unir tj Club Mrs. Eleanor Roberts was hostess hos-tess to Country Club at their meeting Monday night for dinner and cards. Club members present were Dora Munster, June Reid, Verna Shepherd Shep-herd Lois Hinckley, Lois Maxfield, Vi Robinson, Dorothy Steele, Elaine Knight, Fern Mortensen, Rayda Knight, Ruby Vodak, and Beulah Bassett. Guests were Neva Robinson, Robin-son, Nell Callister, LaPreal Mortensen Mort-ensen and Margaret Jensen. High score at cards was held by Mrs. Steele, with Vi Robinson sec-cond sec-cond hi eh. and Mrs. Munster. low. Mrs. Jensen was high for the guests. Mrs. Sarah McCullough was visit ed over the weekend and Mother's Day by her children, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Daly, from Tooele, and Mr. and Mrs. Jay McCullough, from Oregon. The Dalys visited in Provo Friday on the way to Delta with Mr. Daly's mother, Mrs. Sarah Church. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nielson and Mrs. Eleavor Nielson spent Thursday Thurs-day in Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin W'hatcott have returned home after a two weeks visit in Nebraska with their son, Mr. and Mrs. Garth Whatcott and family. Mr. and Mrs. Nephi Schwab and little son were here over the week end from Lund, Nevada, with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Overson and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nielson had their daughter Collen and Roberta home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fowler of Salt Lake and Roberta and Mr. Fred Zitting from Provo. Miss Velda Sheriff was down from the city to be with her family over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dutson and children drove down from Salt Lake and visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mills and Mr. and Mrs. John Dutson. They returned home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nielson drove to Trenton, Idaho for the weekend to be with Mrs. Nielson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sherelbury. Bob will report to Ogden for his physical before returning home. Mr. and Mrs, Phill Nielson and daughters drove to Enterprise for Sunday where they visited Mrs. Nielson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Huntsman. Mr. and Mrs. Harry McCardell and sons drove to Orem Sunday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ogden. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Roper, Mrs. Eunice Nielson and Callier Lovell attended a funeral in Orem Tuesday Tues-day for a relative. Mrs. Glenna Vest and children left for Provo Tuesday for a weeks stay with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Klrt Roper. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Nielson and Family visited Sunday in Provo with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Larsen and Mrs. Josephine Sudury. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Easterbrook were here Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith. . The home of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ches-ter Bowers was the scene of a family reunion, the family of Mrs. Frank Ash down. Guests were, Mr. and Mrs. Arvey Houston, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. SHIPLEY - The Sunday school sponsored a very fine program Sunday morning morn-ing consisting of talks by Cecil Jacobson, LuOna Talbot and Wiltie Dutson. Grant Finlinson sang two beautiful numbers, a trio by Glen-da Glen-da Talbot, Sandra Finlinson and Cherie Alldredge, a chorus by junior jun-ior Sunday School, organ solo, by Edith Finlinson. Many appreciative mothers were presented with a beautiful fuschia plant. Supertend-ent Supertend-ent Duane Finlinson took charge of the program. Sunday evening Elder LeRay McAllister Mc-Allister was the speaker at sacrament sac-rament meeting, reporting his mis sionary experiences in Germany, and singing "Calvary", which was very beautiful. Alfred Lake awarded award-ed the scouts their merit badges. Avis Anderson and Vonetta Jac obson were home from Salt Lake and Johanaah Alldredge from Eph- riam, for Mother's Day. Mrs. Vera Poulson is visiting ia Oak City, from California. Primary preparation meeting was held at Rebecca Pratt's home Wednesday evening. Maxine Finlin son gave the lesson. Ten primary workers were present Mrs. Clarence East had her daug hter Betsy Ann and children spend the past week in Oak City. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Don Drollinger from Salt Lake visited Thursday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Shipley. The talent show Saturday night was conducted by the M.I.A.. A very good performance was given by young and oldl, with skits, mu sic and readings. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Roper had their daughter, Leola Dalton and children from Roy, visiting the past week, and for Mother's Day. The 32nd grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Leo Finlinson arrived at Pay- son hospital May 6. The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferron Bliss. Mrs. Ellis Anderson entertained for her daughter, Avis, and her friends, Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Eda Christensen spent sev eral days in Salt Lake last week attending the wedding of her bro ther. Jay Peterson, of Blanding. Mrs. Mamie Anderson is happy over another grandson born at Nephi. The parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Olson. Silver Winns To Ml rent Mm r ell A 3C Brent J. Lovell, of Oak City is now stationed at Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico, for a tour of 36 months active duty. , At the present time he is an air crew member of an RB-36 heavy bomber, and has been a-warded a-warded the silver wings of the a'er-ial a'er-ial crew. A3C Lovell entered the Air Force For-ce at Parks AFB, Cal., where he received his basic training. He then attended a techinical school Francis E Warren AFB, Wyo. until un-til August, 1952, at which time he was transferred to Scott AFB, 111. There he attended other techinical techini-cal schools until his present assign ment down in old Puerto Rico, He is a son of Mr, and Mrs. Marvin Lovell and was graduated from Delta high school. He attended attend-ed Dixie college at St. George before his enlistment. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Taggart, form er residents, made a visit in Delta Del-ta Monday afternoon on their way to Cedar City on business. They lived in Delta several years before be-fore 1926, and this was their second sec-ond visit here since they moved away. Three of their five children were born in Delta, Alice and twin boys, John and Tom. All their children are married now, and the Taggarts have thirteen grandchild- W. E. Miss Phyllis Clark, Miss Evelyn Davis, Miss Maurine Jenson, from Salt Lake City visited with their folks on Mother's Day. Carl Oliver, from BYU, spent Mother's Day with his folks. The Sunday school gave a lovely Mother's Day program to a large crowd. A potted plant was given to each mother present. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Harris and family spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frelen Shurtz. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Shurtz made a trip to Salt Lake City this week. Doyle Shields spent Mother's Day with his mother, Mrs. Rom Shields. Mr. and Mrs. George Jenson made a business trip to Provo, Utah.
