The Atomic Bomb and Utah The tremendous destructive-ness destructive-ness of the atomic bomb originates origi-nates in uranium, and oddly enough the chief uranium deposits de-posits of the United States are found in southeastern Utah and western Colorado. Uranium is extracted from a yellow ore called call-ed "Carnotite" and the known deposits in Utah are in the Colo- j rado River basin in Grand, Wayne, Garfield and San Juan counties. A number of Carnotite deposits in Utah were mined during the war which at that time was a top war secret. Now after two years of peace, the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission says it will resume the purchase of uran ium-rich Carnotite ores. In addition ad-dition they say they have purchased pur-chased the Carnotite ore processing pro-cessing plant built during the war at Monticello and actual processing of uranium concentrates concen-trates will be started in 1949. Ores will be purchased at the Monticello plant this summer, and the high price of Carnotite should make it worthwhile for interested Utahns to take up prospecting for uranium. Finding the yellow, uranium- bearing Carnotite is no problem for the experienced prospector, as it is easily identified and is usually found on the surface or a few feet under the ground. Oddly enough, the richest Carnotite ore finds are usually associated with fossilized trees and dinosaur bones, the location of which often proves an important lead to uncovering valuable deposits. Experienced uranium prospectors pros-pectors no doubt have already started combing the isolated sections of southeastern Utah anxiously looking for the ores from which more atomic bombs will be created. This ma chine reveals any deformity of the bone structure of the loot and it not only helps to select the DroDer shape shoe but it also determines if the shoe fits prop erly as to width and lengtn. vine machine is adjusted for three degrees of penetration, low for children; medium ror women, and high for men. In this new X-ray machine the flesh as well as the bone is shown so that it is absolutely impossible to fit shoes too short. This is especially important to children, because short or im- DroDerlv fitted shoes can greatly damage the soft, pliable bones of a child's foot. It eliminates guessing when fitting children's 50ft feet for it is well known that youngsters may not know "how the shoes feel" nor be able to express their opinions. This X-ray machine permits you actually act-ually to see the fit of shoes before be-fore they are purchased and worn, thus eliminating the an noyance of returning misnt shoes. Adults will be interested to know that it will also aid greatly in fitting arch supports, which has been a feature of Chipman's for many years. r n 1 1 JELLO,F, 15c POST TOASTIESpL 25c B3 COCOA 2 For 1 Lb. Building Up the Soil By using available fertilizers more emcientiy,- larmers can stretch the supply and build up their soil, according to Middle West Soil Improvement committee. The Truth About The Watch You Want To Buy There have been about 75 watch factories started in this country in the past 150 years and only 3 of them survived the strain of competition, com-petition, namely Elgin, Wal-tham Wal-tham and Hamilton. Each of them are large modern factories and have about the same general set up of precision pre-cision machinery, good engineering, en-gineering, etc., and they make everything from large f i n e 1 y ad j usted railroad watches to men and women's wrist watches. Not one of them advertise that all railroads rail-roads run on their particular particu-lar watch or that America runs on their time or that they make precision watches, watch-es, because precision watches watch-es cost 3 times as much to make as any other watch. These watches are honestly made and advertised for just what they are. So well have the public accepted these three makes of watches watch-es that in spite of increased production they have been unable to supply the demand de-mand for the past decade. They know and you know that they can't put three times the expense into a $75.00 watch and still sell it for $75.00. They, know that America runs on U. S. Observatory time and not on the time of any particular watch. It is quite evident that someone is over rating their product when they say that America runs on the time of some particular wrist watch. "THAT IS NOT TRUE". Before coming to Utah I was with one of the largest watch inspectors in New York City and as I have stated above; All railroad watches must be pocket watches made with precision machinery of the highest grade.
