Show Call 756-7669 to INew Utah - Thursday, November 11, 2004 - Page 12 place a classified ad ALPINE The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints has acquired two lots in the Long Drive subdivision located east of the current church site on 549 W. Canyon Crest Road. The property will be used to build a recreation area for the new church that will be constructed soon. Plans include a pavilion, volleyball court, a grass recreation field and a small outdoor amphitheater. The City Council will consider con-sider final approval in an upcoming council coun-cil meeting. ALPINE The sign ordinance was reviewed by the Planning Commission on Nov. 2 focusing on how to amend the community event aspect of the ordinance. The new Alpine Playhouse does not currently qualify as a community event, so the commission is deciding how to change the definition of a community event to allow the playhouse to advertise. Only events that are school, church, or city sponsored fall under the city's definition of a community event. Other aspects of the ordinance reviewed included time limit and size. CEDAR HILLS The Cedar Hills Youth City Council is hosting "Fall into Fun," a Kids Day for ages 1 to 6, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the city offices, 3925 W. Cedar Hills Dr. Children will have the chance to make crafts, enjoy a festival, and munch on treats. The cost is $4 per child, and the proceeds go to the YCC for their future city and community activities. CEDAR HILLS The City Council decided Nov. 2 to introduce a golf course shortfall fee to residents res-idents in a series of town meetings slated for December. An $11 golf fee would be added to residents' utility bills for a year, in order to pay off the $230,000 shortfall. The council has previously looked at adding the payment to property taxes, and therefore making it tax deductible. Due to last year's citizen's Tax Initiative, this tax would have to be voted on by the people, which could only take place in November or June, and waiting until June would mean the losses for last year would then be added to this year's projected loss. HIGHLAND On Oct. 26 after a public hearing the Highland City Planning Commission recommended rec-ommended a conditional use permit be granted to the proposed Beacon Hills pump station. It is to be located on a pie-shaped pie-shaped sixth of an acre lot on 6000 West Beacon Hills Boulevard which is above 10800 North. Mayor Jess Adamson explained the pump station is about a block directly above the new Highland City well so the water for the surrounding subdivision can be gravity fed from there. The well can provide both culinary or pressurized pres-surized irrigation water as needed. The motion made by Larry Mendenhall for recommendation rec-ommendation passed by unanimous vote. HIGHLAND Highland resident Sean Warner came to the City Council meeting Nov. 2 to express his concern about a problem he has with a neighbor. It seems the neighbor is digging a long trench on the property line between them which Warner claims threatens to undercut his property. However, he was informed there was no city ordinance which prohibits it. "I will have to put up a retaining wall because now he is complaining com-plaining all the water from my property is going into his yard. Isn't there some law that says you can't take away the lateral support of my property?" He was assured the city engineer will go out and look at the situation. Council member Brian Brunson suggested the city look at an ordinance ordi-nance to deal with situations like this one. LEHI Jennie Ovard of Lehi loves her Lehi City Public Library and so decided to sponsor an event to raise money to help fund library projects. Through her business, busi-ness, selling Gold Canyon Candles, she is giving approximately 40 to 50 percent of sales to the Lehi Public Library. The products prod-ucts 19 candle scents include such holiday titles as Cozy Christmas, Pumpkin Pie and Christmas Wreath. There are three optional sizes - 8 oz., $11.95; 16 oz., $15.95; and 26 oz., $18.95. Double wicked, the candles burn evenly, retain their scent through the life of the candle. Deadline for orders is Nov. 10 and delivery will be by or before Nov. 18. To order, visit the Lehi City Public Library, 123 N. Center Street during dur-ing library hours. There is a booth set up displaying the candles. Orders are being taken at the booth or at the library front desk. Kristi Seely, library director, said the funds donated to the library from the fund raiser will be used for children's books and children's books on tape. LEHI ' Jericho Road is "Walking the Higher Road" to Lehi High School on Nov. 21 welcoming wel-coming in Lehi Family Week 2004, Nov. 21 to Nov. 27. The Christian musical group's concertfireside will begin at 7 p.m. and will address the year's theme "Families: Footsteps to a Better Future." Lehi Family Week (LFW), in its fourth year, has become a community tradition intended to strengthen and support families in the area and is a celebration of the family. Sponsored by the LFW Committee, chaired by Jill McKenzie, it is supported by Lehi City, the Lehi Community Council, the Lehi Region PTAthe Lehi Chamber of Commerce and Thanksgiving Point. LINDON Since February, Wasatch Portable Storage Stor-age has been operating at 135 S. 1030 West, Lindon, without a business license. The new manager, Chris Kitchen, came to the Lindon Planning Commission Oct. 27 with a temporary site plan. Commission chair Dustin Sweeten asked why a company compa-ny would go in and open up shop without permits or a license. Kitchen said the previous pre-vious manager had neglected to get a license, but he had come to correct the problem, and get permission to stack containers con-tainers three high. The City Council approved a permit to expire in October 2005. To extend the permit the company must come back and tell the commission what their permanent plans are and get them approved. .
