Show Pleasant Grove ReviewLindon Review New Utah - Thursday, April 29, 2004 - Page 8 HOSA students place in state competition By Aubrey Carroll and Samantha Johnson On March 24-25, 35 students stu-dents from Pleasant Grove High School attended the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) state competition in Ogden. They competed with hundred hun-dred of high school students from across the state in different dif-ferent areas of healthcare knowledge. The students were led by advisors Steve Revelli, Rod Jackman and Shauna Black. All performed very well in the competition, bringing home four 1st place medals, two 2nd place and one 3rd place, along with many other, students placing in the top ten in their event. 'Twenty-three of the 35 students from our school performed per-formed so well, we doubled the number of students who placed over last year," said advisor Shauna Black. Jace Hilton and Tiffany Hailstone took first in parliamentary parlia-mentary procedures, Shawnee Lane brought home the gold for interviewing skills and Steve Carroll won for healthcare concepts. Other winners in healthcare concepts were Jessica McK-ell, McK-ell, who took 2nd place and Steven Jones, who took 3rd. Amy Hill also placed 2nd in the nutrition event. The main focus and biggest event of the competition competi-tion was the HOSA Bowl, where four-member teams compete against other teams to answer anatomy, healthcare health-care and HOSA procedures questions. The school took two teams to compete! The PG1 team, who placed 5th, consisted of Brock Smith, Matt Hughes, Taylor Bentley and Scott Maughn. The PG2 team placed 7th with Steve Jones, Jessica McKell, Amy Hill and Robert Matheny. "We knew every answer, we just weren't quick enough on the buzzers. We even knew the answers after we were eliminated that the winning team couldn't answer," Brock Smith said. Zach Lyman and Ryan Anderson were both elected to PGHS Senior Class Day set A Pleasant Grove High School senior dance is scheduled sched-uled for May 7 at the Academy Acade-my Square Provo City Library. It is senior dinner formal for all seniors with the . theme "Times Like These." The class officers are preparing a senior slide show for entertainment. No dates please, and tickets are $25. The PGHS School Senior Class Day will be at Aspen Grove above Sundance Ski Resort and is on May 21. The event is sponsored by the senior class council and its officers. There will be many activities activi-ties including racquetball, miniature golf, sand volleyball, volley-ball, flag football, a 48-inch big screen television and pool tables to add to the entertainment enter-tainment opportunities. The cost is under $18 and includes bus transportation round-trip, activities and a steak fry. Tickets are available the week of each event at the PGHS finance office, 700 E. 200 South. The four 1st place winners, along with the HOSA council members and school advisors will be attending the national competition in Orlando, Fla. Nationals will be held this June. . ?
