All individuals or group leaders taking noncommercial noncommer-cial boat trips on any portion por-tion of the Green River between Green River State Park and the northern boundary of Canyonlands National Park are now required to obtain a permit. Permits are free, and there is no limitation on the numbers num-bers of permits that may be taken. Permits are required year round for all river users and will be checked at the put-ins and by rangers on river patrol. Under the agreement, Utah State Parks will be operating the check-in system at Green River State Park, as well as assisting in patrols ' of Labyrinth Canyon. This permitting system will enable the BLM and Forestry, Fire and State Lands to better protect the river corridor by ensuring that all groups agree to abide by certain stipulations stipula-tions while using the river. These noncommercial permit per-mit stipulations include the requirement that all individuals indi-viduals and groups possess and use portable toilets and fire pans while in Labyrinth Canyon. In addition, group size is limited to no more than 25 persons. The goal of the stipulations is to protect Labyrinth Canyon and to provide sustainable public recreation opportunities there. Permits for Labyrinth Canyon will be available from many sources, including includ-ing the BLM's Price and Moab field offices (from 8 a.m. to noon), the Utah Forestry, Fire and State Lands Office in Moab, Green River State Park, and Canyonlands National Park (Island in the Sky-Visitor Sky-Visitor Center). In addition, permits are available at the Moab Information Center, Ruby Ranch, and the John Wesley Powell River History Museum in Green River. The Canyonlands National Park Reservation Office will also issue a Labyrinth Canyon permit in conjunction with a Stillwater Canyon permit at (435) 719-2313. Later this spring, Labyrinth Canyon permits will be available on-line at http:www.blm.govutahpr ice In addition, permits can also be obtained from the following outfitters: Canyon Voyages, Holiday River Expeditions, Moki Mac River Expeditions, Tag-A-Long Tours, and Tex's River Expeditions. The BLM and the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands request that the boating community help spread the word about the permitting system. This system will help protect Labyrinth Canyon, one of the West's outstanding scenic sce-nic calmwater float trips. For more information, please contact Heather O'Hanlon at the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands at (435) 259-3762 or Dennis Willis at the BLM Price Field Office at (435) 636-3600. f Ruth Naomi Fillmore Frear, 72, of Pleasant Grove passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2002 of natural causes.
