More than 3,000 dolls on display af Provo's McCurdy Doll Museum By Linda Butler Take a step back in time as you enter the doll museum in the restored historical histori-cal carriage house. More than 3,000 dolls, are on display in the McCurdy Doll Museum. These dolls preserve the beauty, beau-ty, fashions, and memories of days gone by. In addition to this extensive doll collection, col-lection, are antique toys and miniatures. The permanent collections include 144 dolls in "Folk Dress of the World." The colorful col-orful costumes are captivating. Historically accurate, they portray native custom and national dress in exact detail. The "Parade of Fashion" dolls display dis-play fashions of dress from the cave man to the present. Other fascinating collections collec-tions on display include, "First Ladies of America," "Women of the Bible," "American Indian Dolls," and "Special Antique Dolls." Lest you think all of the dolls in the museum are feminine, there is a collection collec-tion of 24 "Rare and Glorious Boy Dolls" and a fascinating collection of soldier dolls. The soldier doll collection includes ancient warriors, conquistadors; dolls of the American Revolution, Civil War, through World War I. Younger children will enjoy seeing the several life-size cloth dollslife size baby doll, and the antique toys, tricycles and . wagons. A carnival display of Ferris wheel and carousel actually move. Older children will be fascinated by the collection of miniatures 47 tiny rooms of lovely and meticulously crafted furnishings. An interesting display shows how doll heads are molded and created. An Academy-Award winning documentary about dolls, "This Tiny World," is shown free of charge. In addition to the permanent collections, collec-tions, the McCurdy Doll museum has displays dis-plays which change from month to month. February's display was a collection collec-tion of Black dolls, in celebration of Black History Month. In March, a collection of Girl Scout dolls will be on display. Special arrangements may be made with the museum for group tours and birthday parties. A gift shop sells doll books, patterns, kits, toys, and doll-making supplies; a doll-hospital and repair services. The museum also features lectures lec-tures and craft classes. One Saturday each month, the Doll museum hosts a special tea party. The tea parties are held inside the museum during the winter, and outside in the museum's "Secret Garden" in the warmer months. Attending the museum's tea party might be a very special parent-child parent-child "date." The McCurdy Doll museum is located at 246 North 100 East, Provo. The museum's muse-um's winter hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 1 to 5 p.m., with extended hours in the summer. Admission fees are nominal, $2 for adults and $1 for children under 12.
