Francom hit a jumper just before the half to put Pleasant Grove within 22-13. In the first four minutes of the new half, the Vikings struggled strug-gled to stay within nine points. After a Kelsey Parks bucket had placed the Vikings within 27-18, Mattson swished in two free throws and Wilkes contributed con-tributed a field goal to engineer a 13-2 scoring run that put the score at 40-20. To the Vikings, it was a devastating dev-astating blow. Just as they tried recovering from it in the next quarter, Lone Peak applied its press with destructive effect. Through the course of the fourth period, the Knights held Pleasant Grove to eight points. Meanwhile, the Knight lead stayed above the 20-point mark. Francom led Pleasant Grove with 11 points while Montano added another six. Webb led Lone Peak with 19 points while Hatch added another 10. The daughter of Roger and Dorothy Felix, Amy said, "I started playing basketball when I was in ninth grade. I tried out for the team just because I was tall. My height in ninth grade was 5-11. I'm now 6-1." Because she didn't possess prior hoop experience, she didn't did-n't get to start for the ninth-grade ninth-grade team. She said she had to serve as an understudy for the team's starting center, Becky Jense, who went on to play two seasons at Pleasant Grove High. "I had to acquire my game experience through playing in fifth periods with other girls who'd spend games sitting on the bench," Amy said. Her acquirement of hoop experience enabled her to get on the Vikings' sophomore and junior varsity squads during 10th grade. Though she saw lots of action in the jayvee circuit, cir-cuit, she recalled, "I played varsity var-sity only three times my junior year." When Amy played jayvee, her then coach, Lisa Hall, had her play forward, and teammate team-mate Heidi Terry was center. Amy said she has appreciated appreciat-ed having Terry as a teammate. The center said, "Heidi has come in to cover for me when I'm out."
