Show NORTH COUNTY NEWSPAPERS Page 11 Celebrations Velma Clegg 90th Birthday Thursday, October 9, 2008 Velma Clegg's family would like to pay tribute to her on her 90th birthday. She was born in McCammon, Idaho on October 10, 1918. She grew up with 5 sisters sis-ters and helped her father on the family farm. She tromped hay, mended fences, helped harvest crops, etc. She met our dad, Ted Clegg, when she was in 5th grade when he started working for her father on the farm. They played marbles together as they waited for the school bus. She was active in sports, loved to read, and was vice president of her senior class. As a teenager, Velma won first place at the fair for her bread. Her rolls, breads, and homemade jams have always been family favorites. After high school graduation, Velma moved to California to work. She and Ted were married June 30, 1937 and have been an incredible in-credible example of love and dedication dedi-cation to each other. They were later sealed in the Provo Temple. Our parents recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary and they still have that sparkle in their eyes for each other. They moved to Utah where they raised their three children, Gayle, Sandy, and Earl. Over the years, Velma has enjoyed working in their yard and helping Ted raise vegetables and beautiful flower gardens. Most days you can see her in her wide brimmed hat working in the flower gardens. No matter how tired they are, their yard must be immaculate. Anyone who comes to visit is sent home with garden produce, homemade bread and jam, or starts of a flower. Velma has always been an example for her kindness and giving. Eight beautiful grandchildren call her grandma: Michelle, Shawna, JJ, Nicole, Jaron, Jon, Kevin and Alesa. Velma is very competitive and loves to play games, especially cards and dominoes, and her grandchildren have fond memories of her quietly winning the games when they least expected it. Her great grandchildren, grand-children, Chelsea, Kieley, Jessie, Tyler, Cameron, Cassidy, Kend-rick, Kend-rick, Tristan, Raquel, Cate, Grace, Parker, Ava, Jackson, Duncan, and Zachary always enjoy ice cream and cookies and go home with a pocket full of quarters. We know that family comes first and how important it is to Velma. Whenever possible, we traveled out of state to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles, and DEB Aspen Mortgage Your Home Loan Specialists r . a sn'SM ic.ci REVERSE MORTGAGES No Income, VovnCHOiCEOf Creditor 1 MoNTMiLY Employment 1 JxsTALLtEIrS' Requirements 1 iijwP SVH OR Pay Off Debt . Our parents spent a lot of time taking tak-ing us places and being together. Velma has very close ties with her sisters and their spouses and they have enjoyed their times together over the years. As a family, we spent time learning to love nature and enjoyed en-joyed the beauty of the mountains and most weekends we went hiking, camping, or fishing. We all remember the fun of going in your campers and motor home to go on a picnic, trip, or go fishing. Snowmobiling in the big field was the greatest ever, followed by hot chocolate and hot dog roasts. Velma has always been quiet and soft spoken and has never wanted attention drawn to herself. When the family would go fishing, she would quietly sit up in the front of the boat. When a fish was on her line, she would reel it almost in then quietly ask for someone to pass her the net. Mom, we are grateful to you for the countless hours you spent taking us to dance lessons, piano lessons, little league games, sewing sew-ing our dresses and costumes, baking our favorite treats, shuttling shut-tling us to matinees, ice skating, roller skating, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc. etc. Our childhood is filled with wonderful wonder-ful memories and we don't know how you found time to do it all plus keep the house organized and spotless, hand water the grass, can all our fruit and vegetables, work outside the home, etc. You always put others before your own needs and wants. You are totally devoted to our family and we love you so much. Thank you, mom.. .for loving and caring, for giving and sharing, shar-ing, but, especially, for just being you!
