Show Thursday, March 6, 2008 NORTH COUNTY NEWSPAPERS Page 3 Celebrations Leland Wimmer 85th birthday Leland Pulley Wimmer will celebrate his 85th birthday March 7. 1 le will be remembered on that day by his family at a dinner in his honor. Leland was born March 7, 1923 in Murray, Utah. He was the second son of George and Hazel Pulley Wimmer. He was raised in American Fork and received his early education educa-tion in local schools. He graduated gradu-ated from American Fork High School in 1941. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy. He earned a Bachelors and Masters degree from BYU, also earning credentials in counseling and clinical clini-cal psychology. 1 le served in the Utah school system for 34 years. His career in education began in V)52. teaching fourth and sixth grades at Forles School in Amerian Fork, Utah. He worked in the Alpine School District for 18 years. In 19(15, he left the classroom and became one of the first elementary counselors in the state of Utah. In 19(19 he accepted the position of school psychologist and part -time administrator ad-ministrator in the Tooele County School District office. His duties included diagnostic work with handicapped students, supervision supervi-sion of special education, the child abuse and neglect program and inter-agency cxrdinator for the district. He retired in May 1980. He married Evelyn Merikofer February 14, 1945 in Salt Lake Valene Gurney Sister Valene N. Gurney, daughter of Brent and Margaret Gurney of American Fork, has recently returned from serving in the Spain Barcelona LDS Mission. He served 12 years as a high councilman in the Alpine and American Fork Stakes. I le and his wife served three full-time missions for the church. Parley Louder Elder Parley Justin Louder, son of Jesse and Suzanne Louder of Lehi, has been called to serve in the Mexico Guadalajara South LDS Mission. He graduated from the P.O.S.T, " Police Academy in 19S(i. Ik-worked Ik-worked a part -lime position for Alpine Highland for a short time, transferring to the Lehi Police IX'-partment IX'-partment for a full-time position. In July 1990. alter four years of serving in Lehi. a full-time position became available in Alpine'lligh-land Alpine'lligh-land and Sergeant Healey decided to transfer back to the Alpine Highland area. Sergeant Healey was one ot the first officers to teach the children's DA H 1 program when it was first introduced intro-duced into the AlpineHighland area. Sergeant Healey served in the Alpine Highland area for the remainder of his career, retiring in January oi 200H. Korey has lived in Alpine his whole life and was happy to serve the people in his hometown. Korey served an honorable service during his law enforcement career.
