Show NORTH COUNTY NEWSPAPERS Page 9 Thursday, December 6, 2007 Timpanogos hold Messiah Sing-in The Timpanogos Festival Orchestra and Chorus will present its 12th annua Messiah Mes-siah Sing-in on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Alpine Tabernacle, located at 100 E. State St. in American Fork. Admission is free. Because of the popularity of this annual event, admission is limited to those 8 years of age and older. Guest soloists are Mary Bil-leter-Young, soprano; Laura Lewis, mezzo-soprano; George Dyer, tenor; and Gary Soren-son, Soren-son, baritone. A 100-voice chorus cho-rus and 50-piece orchestra will complete the performance of the oratorio. Lois Stout is the conductor. Audience members can enjoy en-joy the experience of singing in the historic Alpine Tabernacle along with hundreds of other musicians in celebration of the Christmas season, as the audience will be invited to sing along with the chorus and orchestra or-chestra during the ten chorus numbers. Those wishing to sing-in should bring their own copies of Messiah. Music will not be available at the performance. perfor-mance. The conductor and founder of this event, Lois Stout, who retired to this area from Maryland to be near her family. While living liv-ing in the East, Stout, a professional violinist, worked as a conductor and music educator. She conducted Messiah for many years in the Washington D.C. area, working work-ing with the finest professional soloists. In 1988, she founded the Baltimore-based F.A.M.E. Orchestra, which was invited to perform at the International Interna-tional String Conference in Graz, Austria. She was also a co-founder of the Baltimore String Music Camp, which was begun in 1974. Stout also founded, and is a conductor of, the Timpanogos String Camp for young musicians musi-cians from Utah Valley. She founded, and is currently conductor of, the Timpanogos Chamber Orchestra, a string ensemble consisting of 60 of '- ' - Lois Stout the most gifted young string , players in Utah Valley. She holds a master's degree in violin vio-lin performance. The Timpanogos Festival Chorus is prepared by Lisa Brodie, a professional singer and violinist from Alpine. She has performed Messiah in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Ken-nedy Center and holds performance perfor-mance degrees in voice and violin. Mary Billeter-Young, sopra no, graduated gradu-ated from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Dra-matic Arts in Vienna, Austria. She performed in operas and recorded extensively in Europe. Mary has performed with the Los Angeles Opera Company and won first place in the Metropolitan Opera Op-era and San Francisco Opera auditions in Utah. She has been a soloist with the Mormon Tabernacle Tab-ernacle Choir. Mezzo-soprano Laura Garff Lewis, a native of Utah, holds bachelor of ' music and master of fine arts degrees from the University of Utah. She performed for several years with the Utah Op- Mary Billeter-Young r Laura Garff Lewis era Company in its Opera in the Schools program as well as in a variety of operatic roles. She has performed classical clas-sical and Broadway concerts with the Utah Symphony and has also been a soloist with the Oratorio Society of Utah, Utah Chamber Artists, Temple Square Chorale, Swisse Ro-mande Ro-mande Radio Choir, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Ms. Lewis received a special honor performing for Her Majesty Maj-esty Queen Sirikit of Thailand at the Rattanakosin Bicentennial Bicenten-nial Celebration for Bangkok and most recently sang the . nmmnmm mucup EW imOM. George Dyer, tenor, is a well-known soloist throughout the United States and has performed per-formed with the Hartford Symphony, Utah Symphony, Sym-phony, Utah Opera Company, Com-pany, Utah Chamber Artists, and Ballet West. He is a regu- lar recitalist for the Temple Square Concert Series and is a frequent soloist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He has performed Messiah Mes-siah with the Utah Symphony, Pro Voce Chorale, and Provo Arts Council. Baritone Gary Sorenson holds a master's degree in vo cal performance perfor-mance from the San Francisco Fran-cisco Conservatory Con-servatory of Music and teaches voice at Weber State University, Univer-sity, where he received his bachelor's degree in music. He also operates a full-time voice studio from home. He is the recipient of the national Presser Scholarship and received the Outstanding Voice Award for his participation participa-tion in the New Opera Festival di Roma. Gary has been seen on stage in numerous productions produc-tions in Utah, Northern California, Califor-nia, and Italy. The performance is free; no tickets are required. However, admission is strictly limited to those eight years of age and older because of limited seating seat-ing and the popularity of this event.
