Show Page 13 Thursday, October 25, 2007 NORTH COUNTY NEWSPAPERS Obituaries Ernest J Smith Ernest J Smith, age 84 died Oct. 18, 2007 in Salt Lake City, Ut. of natural causes. Ernie was one of the of Joseph Johnson Smith, a pio-neer pio-neer and one of the original founding fathers of Lehi. He was born Febru ary 10, 1923 in Lehi, the son of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Fox Smith. Ernest was the youngest of two children. His sister Utella Taft of Salt Lake City survives him. He attended Lehi public schools and he graduated in 1941 from Lehi High School where he played basketball. Ernie grew up farming farm-ing and cattle ranching all over Lehi His family were members of the National Wool Association and he was a member of the Rodeo Ro-deo Riding Club. He married Florence Mclff on January 24, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They later divorced. He married Colene Pulham in the Manti Temple, they were sealed on August 21, 1962. Ernie shared the last 45 years of his life with the love of his life, Colene, raising rais-ing their family in Lehi. Ernie retired from Amoco Oil as a truck driver after 35 years. He returned to work for the Alpine School District to drive a school bus and retired after 11 years of service. Ernie has been an active member mem-ber of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many cailings throughout through-out his full life. He served a part time local mission with his wife from 1998-2002 in the Member and Statistical Records Mission. Ernie loved to travel with his wife Colene in their motor home, especially to visit their children and their grandchildren who are scattered across the United States. Ernie loved cowboy poetry, poet-ry, horses, the Lehi Rodeo, being in the outdoors, BYU sports and Lehi High School sports. Ernie's greatest loves in his life were his wife Colene and the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is the father of 11 children: Ernest Dale (Dee) Smith; Robert J. (Karen) Smith; Deborah Jean (Steve) Gates; Charlene (Robert) (Rob-ert) Brough; Brian M. (Stacey) Smith; Arthur (Janine) Smith; Marc D. (Pinky) Smith; Todd L (Pam) Smith and Laura (Scott) Johnson. A son Earl Hales and daughter Ronda Baum preceded him in death. He has 39 grandchildren grandchil-dren and 41 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to the compassionate compas-sionate staff at the University of Utah Hospital SICU unit. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Lehi South Bench Chapel, 145 East 1500 North at 11:00 a.m. A viewing was held Monday evening eve-ning from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wing Mortuary 118 E. Lola Peterson Adams Lola Peterson Adams, 93, of Orem passed away October 17, 2007. Lola was born "July 25", 1914 (very appropriate for a modern-day modern-day pioneer) in Ephraim, Utah a daughter of Oscar C. And Marion Olsen Peterson. In high school, she developed her love for creative writing, drama and reading. read-ing. She won numerous awards in all three areas. Lola has been an Orem resident for over 75 years, i She married Ronald B. Adams on July 22, 1932, they were later ' sealed in the Provo LDS Temple August 27, 1988. Lola has served as the President of the Utah County Women's Leg-j Leg-j islative Council, the Orem Boosters, Boost-ers, the Orem Women's Club, the Spencer Elementary PTA, the Lincoln High School PTA, and the Orem PTA Council. She was a producer of the Miss Orem Scholarship Schol-arship Pageant and has served as ; the chairperson of SCERA Rec- ' reation Fund Drive and the Red Cross Fund Drive. The home that Lola, Ron and family lived in was one of the first .; homes built on the Provo Bench. She always exemplified the philosophy phi-losophy that "work is good." Lola has served in the LDS Church for over 54 years, teaching teach-ing in Primary, Sunday School, Mutual, and Relief Society. She has written and produced ward "Road Shows", has taught the Literature Lesson Les-son in Relief Society for more than 25 years. Lola loved gardening, cooking for family and friends, wear ing beautiful hats and dressing to a "T", creative cre-ative writing, loved words and teaching. Whatever Ron planted she weeded, picked, watered and marketed. Survivors include her daughters: daugh-ters: Loy Vee (Nard) Johnson; Patircia Vail (Frank) Harris; Vicki Roneen (Dell) Young; Darla Kay (Alan) Smith, 23 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, and 18 great great grandchildrea She ' was preceded in death by her husband hus-band Ron and her daughter Dixie Sanford. Funeral services were held Monday, October 22, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sharon 5th Ward Chapel, 545 South 800 East in Orem. Friends and family called Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem and also Monday one hour prior to the services at the ward chapel. Paul Beck D C. Stephen Krommenhoek Stephen Krommenhoek, son of Royce and Rita Swenson and John entered this life on Feb. 15, 1984, and passed into the next on Oct.16, 2007. Stephen was a bright, determined, and unselfish child of God. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 2002. He received his associate's degree from UVSC and was completing com-pleting his last semester at the University of Utah where he was to graduate in December with a degree in political science. But what matters most about Stephen is the compassion and caring he extended to others in distress. Our family cherishes the memories we each carry of his quirky humor, his simple tenderness, and his beautiful smile. Stephen is survived by his parents; par-ents; siblings Melissa Mockbee (Rick), Amanda Shields (Travis), Sid Krommenhoek (Rian), Lisa Richards (Abe) and Erin Krommenhoek; Krom-menhoek; eleven nephews and nieces; stepsiblings; Cami, Tyler, Todd, Troy; grandparents Wes and Virginia Swenson, and many aunts and uncles. Tamara Glenn was also a special person in Stephen's life. A viewing was held Monday October 22, 2007 from 6-8 pm at Olpin Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Stephen's funeral was held on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 2O0 pm at the LDS chapel on 250 W 600 S in Lindon (off of Orem 1600 N). Interment In-terment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinfa-milymortuary.com. Mary Peterson : Mary Deseret Sargent Peterson, Peter-son, age 85 of Lehi, died Oct. 21, 2007 of causes incident to age. She was born April 7, 1922 in Coalville, Utah to William Le-Roy Le-Roy and Lois Hannah Copley Cop-ley Sargent. Married Vere T. Peterson, January 7, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died Nov. 4, 1980. Mary served in the LDS Church as Ward Relief Society President Presi-dent and Secretary, Stake Relief Society Counselor, as a temple worker in the Provo Temple, and a missionary in the North Carolina, Caro-lina, Charlotte Mission. She was a member of the Days of '47 Executive Execu-tive Board and Chairman of the Days of '47 Queen Committee for several years. She served as Vice President of DUP Central Com pany and Regional President of the PTA for Lehi and Cedar Valley, Val-ley, and she helped many years as a volunteer at the American Fork Hospital. Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Vere LaMont (Vicki) Peterson, Lehi; Alan Blake (Shauna) Peterson, Coalville; MaraDee (J.R) Hansen, Pleasant View, UT; Rebecca Ann (Edwin) Cutler, Highland; 20 grandchildren; grandchil-dren; 32 great-grandchildren; sister, sis-ter, Lynette (Glen) Judd, Ogden. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Jim Sargent and two sisters, Lois Roylance and Gay Aimone; granddaughter, Melissa Peterson and great-granddaughter, Breanna Peterson. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lehi East Stake Center chapel, cha-pel, 900 N. 1200 E., Lehi.
