Hansen of Fairfield Fair-field received the National Weather Service's Stoll Award on April 7, honoring him for 50 years of service as a weather observer. National Weather Service Ser-vice Western Region Deputy Director, James Campbell, presented Hansen with a framed certificate and thanked him for his volunteer volun-teer service as one of more than 11,700 weather observers nationwide. For a half century, Hansen has faithfully recorded and reported daily maximum and minimum temperatures and 24-hour precipitation totals. "We estimate that he has taken more than 18,350 observations during his tenure," said Larry Dunn, NWS Meteorologist in-Charge. in-Charge. Dunn commended Hansen's volunteer spirit and "accurate and timely" weather observations. For his service project, he did two community collections of recyclable materials, with many deliveries taken to the recycling center and sorting the materials, bundling them and weighing weigh-ing them. Kevin is a sophomore sopho-more at Lone Peak High School. He enjoys playing basketball. Payton Broadbent Payton, son of Bruce and Angie Broadbent, made school kits for the Humanitarian Humani-tarian Center in Salt Lake City for his Eagle service project. Hansen served as the stand-by observer for his father-in-law for two years until he took over the observation obser-vation duties on November 24, 1952. The interest in weather also extends to Hansen's descendents. When he goes on vacation, his son's family members next door keep the records.
