The team got off to another sleepy start as the Tigers scored in the second minute, but after that, "we dominated, especially in the first half," said coach Saul Montana American Fork's first two goals were opportunistic. At minute 22. Adam Hansen was tripped in the box, and Mitch Tate made the subsequent penalty kick. The Cavemen continued to pound the ball deep into Orem territory. At minute '., an attempted clearing kick by a Tiger defender was intercepted by Brad Brinton, who passed it quickly to Tate. He moved in beyond the sweeper and sent the ball into the net. The score remained 2-1 at the break. Most of the second half was played in the middle of the field as both defenses repulsed any approaches to LU - r ;.' They scored to tie the game once again. The energy level was raised even higher a3 both teams tried to set up shot opportunities. With under two minutes left, an Orem defender tried to pass to a teammate instead of clearing clear-ing the ball. Hansen intercepted inter-cepted it and hit the net from 30 yards out, sending the ball over the keepers head as he came out to challenge chal-lenge the attempt. The defense then held until the clock expired. "Hansen really played a game," Montano said. "He attacked the defense, and that was the difference. Bryce Schneider did a fine job in his first game as a sweeper. I was also very impressed with the passing of (freshman) Jared Vogels-berg." Vogels-berg." In addition, Garret Fox did well on the left wing on both sides of the ball. The team received a blow this week when five players failed to make grades, making mak-ing them ineligible for the rest of the season. Four of them were on the varsity squad. This was very disappointing, dis-appointing, but well recover," recov-er," Montano said. Some younger players will be brought up from other teams to fill the vacancies.
