The game started Thursday Thurs-day with Beehive's Zac Cornwell and National's Taylor Judd squaring off on the mound. The teams were scoreless through their three innings. Andy Lewis had a hit for National in the first inning, but was left stranded at third. Beehive's Jarrett Pulsipher Pul-sipher also singled aboard but was later picked off, and Gentry Haws walked but was left at first. Tanner Christenson led off the second inning with a double, but the next three AF teams By Dean Von Memmott Sports Correspondent Five American Fork Little Lit-tle League all-star teams competed in the Region G tournament of the Western Boys' Baseball Tournament for the privilege of being among the region's two representative rep-resentative squads at next week's Little World Series at Salt Lake City's Liberty Park. Competing in the tournament tourna-ment were teams fro American Fork's American, National, and Beehive leagues. These squads saw action at both JC and Wendell Wen-dell Hansen parks through July 22-29. The July 22 action at JC Park unfolded with National Nation-al A gunning down Alpine B 13-2. National A scored the first run on a first-inning single hit by Jacob Perry. Alpine B pitcher Adam Kelsch held National A to just that one run in the inning. During the bottom of the first, Kelsch and Kyle Hatch each singled. Kelsch soon came home for a tying run on a McKay Bench single, sin-gle, but catcher Jace Evans tagged Hatch at the plate. Doubles by Perry and Andy Lewis fueled a five-run five-run rally for National A. Alpine B held the opposing team scoreless in the third Cavette drill camp set for next week A Junior Cavette Drill Camp for girls ages 5 to 13 has been scheduled for Aug. 8 to 10 in the dance room at American Fork High School. In the bottom of the fourth, Bench singled into left, and a Zach Goer-ing Goer-ing scored him. That turned out to be the last Alpine B run of the day. The next inning, National Nation-al A's Taylor Jones clubbed a three-run homer to turn the game into a blowout. At'ter grabbing four runs in the fifth, National A picked " three insurance runs in ll.a sixth. In the second game of the .July 22 twin bill, Highland A topped Beehive B 9-5. Beehive B could not recover fully from the first inning's upper half, which saw Highland High-land A stage a five-run rally, highlighted by Tanner Pederson's two-run double. Clubbing a right-field single in the bottom of the first, Ryan Evans scored the first Beehive B run on a steal. The next inning, Highland High-land A's Jory Bowers clubbed a one-out single into left, then eventually stole home. Holding Highland High-land A scoreless in the third, Beehive picked up a run in the bottom of that inning when Caleb Shepherd Shep-herd scored on an error. Highland A scored a run of its own in the fourth. For the next 1 12 innings, neither nei-ther team could get a run in. a tee-shirt. Class size is limited. lim-ited. Andy Lewis then hit the ball sharply, but shortstop Tyler Ciriako snagged it with a leaping leap-ing catch to get the force at second. for National, Second baseman Travis Davis then caught a Nathan Pitcher fly and completed the double play by getting the ball to catcher catch-er Jordan Edwards, who was able to tag Mulvey In top of the sixth, Highland High-land A picked up two runs on an error and a passed ball. Beehive B went on a three-run scoring spree in the bottom of the inning. The comeback ended with Jordon Krueger getting put out at second. After Alpine B eliminated eliminat-ed Cedar Hills 6-2 in the first game of the July 23 doubleheader, National A swept American aside 12-2 in a four-inning affair in the second game. In the top of the first, singles sin-gles from Lewis and Taylor Judd powered a three-run rally for National A. Aided by a Randy Searle double, the team picked up seven runs in the second. In the third, Weston Frandsen scored the first American run on a Dusty Case single. The next inning, National A tacked on two runs on an error, and American scored only one run, causing the game to be called that inning. In the July 24 double-header, double-header, Searle clubbed a double and a triple while Jones punched a home run to power National A past Highland A 11-1. The July 25-26 game between Beehive B and National B went down as classic defensive battle between two teams Lehi one-pitch tourney on tap Lehi's annual summer one-pitch softball tournament has been scheduled for Aug. 16 and 17. This is a USSSA-sanctioned event for men's class D teams. There is a three-game guarantee. The cost is $150 per team, plus $25 if not already registered reg-istered with the USSSA. After the first two National batters were retired, Jacob Perry drew a walk and advanced on a Judd single. He later scored on an error to post the first run of the night. Corley Bagley then took the mound and retired Beehive in order in the bottom half. National got cranked up offensively in the fifth. Mulvey, Mul-vey, Searle and Lewis all singled to load the bases with no outs. Nathan Pitcher Pitch-er hit a grounder that would have been a fielder's choice, but the throw home was not in time and Mulvey scored. A grounder from Taylor extremely determined to stay alive in the tournament. tourna-ment. Beehive B's Drew Hemsley and Chris Berneau each scored unearned runs in the third inning. A vicious storm caused the rest of the game to be played the next day. In the July 26 portion of the contest, con-test, National B's Colton Miller clubbed a single, then stole home. His run turned out to be the only National B run for the game. The 2-1 win over National Nation-al B set Beehive B for a 20-4 20-4 loss to Alpine A, the defending WBBA champ, July 27. Alpine A took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first, but in the bottom of the third, Beehive B rallied within 5-3. A Zane Menden-hall Menden-hall home run fueled another anoth-er five-run rally for Alpine A in the third. In the bottom of that inning, Justin Jensen singled in what proved to be the last Beehive Bee-hive B run. In the fifth, home runs by Jake Murphy and Jared Christensen sparked an eight-run rally that buried Beehive B's season for good. Christenson brought in another run with a sacrifice to center, and Perry drove in two more with a double to make it 5-0 for NationaL Jones assumed pitching duties in the lower half, giving giv-ing up a two-out single to Davis but getting the next batter to ground out to retire the side. Jace Evans singled aboard to open the sixth, but the next three hitters were retired in order, setting set-ting up a do-or-die batting turn for Beehive. Haws sin- ...... . No tryout information for girls tennis or golf was available at press time. Cross-country There are no official tryouts. Interested students are invited to come to team practices Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 a.m., and Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Football Practices are already underway. Girls soccer Tryouts will be conducted Aug. 5 and 6, with interested inter-ested players required to attend all four sessions, 6:30 to 8 a.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day. A player and parent par-ent meeting has been set for Aug. 7 at 4:30 p.m., with an alumni game the 17th.
