Clief Castleton, Erika's science teacher, says, "Some time after the start of the school year, Erika transferred to my science class. English is not her mother language. She was placed in my class in hopes that she could be taught in Spanish. For the past few months, she has excelled in my class and in most of her others. I have found that Erika often doesn't does-n't need a translation into Spanish. The amazing thing is that Spanish isn't her native tongue either, it's Portuguese. She has overcome over-come the language barrier." Erika writes of herself, "To me excellence in youth means make good use of your life, accepting any opportunity that you think is good for you. It means to be able to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy, study, have good friends and don't lose faith, try to reach your dreams."
