EPSA club sets tryouts Soccer players age 7 to 17 are invited to try out for teams sponsored by K.l'.S.A., a private for-profit club headquartered in North Utah County and affiliated with the Utah Youth Soccer Association. Teams will be entered at all levels from recreation to AAA Div. 1. Some waters are just receiving their first stocking stock-ing of the season and other waters are just beginning to break the spell of winter. Warmwater species are now becoming more active and some of those favorite summer destinations are just beginning to become available for recreationists. Fish stocking trucks have been rolling for several sever-al weeks, preparing the waters for great panfishing action and larger fish are beginning to gorge themselves them-selves once again after the lean winter months. Anglers art; reminded to exercise extreme caution when recreating along Utah's streams and rivers. Icy, swift waters can easily turn a fun outing into a dangerous encounter. Boaters are also encouraged encour-aged to be safe on the open-waters. open-waters. Remember to clean all equipment to limit the spread of w hilling disease. Shore anglers using baits have reported slow to fair success and tubers and boaters are reporting fair success. Black seems to be a good color for most jigs or flies. Parking areas require a $4 parking fee. Please do your part to ensure the future of this heavily utilized uti-lized fishery by voluntarily releasing fish. Jordanelle Reservoir-- Reservoir-- Shore fishing has been reported as fair to good by using traditional baits. Boat ramps are open. Bass success has been reported as "fair." One report of good bass success near submerged vegetation by the personal watercraft ramp part of the reservoir. Fishing pressure is moderate. Bass limit is 6. All bass over 12 inches must be immediately released. Provo River- (above 01 instead Diversion Dam) Artificial flies and lures only! Some construction in Provo Canyon but parking areas are still available. Try small dark colored nymphs for best success. The river in the Heber Valley below Jordanelle Dam looks great and anglers are doing quite well on traditional nymphs. Only 2 brown trout under 15 inches may be kept in this special regulations part of the river. All rainbows and cutthroats cut-throats must be immediately immedi-ately released. Provo River (below Olmstead) bait allowed stretch- (Olmstead Diversion Diver-sion is about 1 mile up the canyon from Bridal Veil Falls). Light to moderate fishing fish-ing pressure. Fair fishing success by using both baits and flies. There are no size restrictions on this part of the river and bait is Baseball AFHS alumnus Trent Crotts is expected to pitch this week in the National Junior College World Series in Junction, Colo., with his teammates at Central Arizona Ari-zona College. They are ranked 14th in the nation entering enter-ing the tournament and have been in the top 10 each of the last four years. A left-hander, Crotts is a middle reliever who posted 17 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.70 in 23 innings this season, his second on the squad. He has signed to continue his baseball career at the University of California at San Diego, where he plans to major in sports medicine. Crotts became interested in pitching at age 8 and worked at it on his own, but never took the mound in an actual game until he was 15. Basketball American Fork's Blaine Durrant has signed to play at the University of Alaska - Anchorage. He is transferring transfer-ring there after playing this past winter at Snow, where he helped the Badgers to a 25-8 record, one of their best seasons ever. He previously played at Dixie College one year prior to serving an LDS mission to Russia. The swingman recorded 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as a sophomore. He was All-State in basketball at AFHS in 1998 and posted a &8n high jump in high school track. Seawolf head coach Charlie Bruns said, "Blaine is a big, strong, athletic wing who can play both the shooting guard and small forward spots. He will nil a need for us as we played all last year undersized under-sized at his position. Deer Creek Reservoir- Water level is low for this time of year. Fishing has been fair to good for about all types of angling techniques. Some smallniouth bass success reported. Perch numbers are down and success for perch has been slow. Yellow perch limit is 10. Hobble Creek and Diamond Fork Rivers-Hobble Rivers-Hobble Creek catch basin has been stocked several times. Water level is down quite a bit in the catch basin. Fishing is fair by using spinners or baits. Several decent-sized trout can be seen up canyon in the creek. Remember: that on Diamond Dia-mond Fork from Springville Crossing to its headwaters is "artificial flies and lures only" and it is closed to the possession of cutthroat trout. Access to parts of Diamond Dia-mond Fork will be a little difficult from Monks Hollow Hol-low to Three Forks due to a 3 year construction project. The cost is $65 for both weeks, which includes a camp tee-shirt. The instructors will include the high school staff plus the AFJH ninth grade coach. Tooele County Lakes-Settlement Lakes-Settlement Canyon, Vernon and Grantsville Reservoirs have all been stocked with their entire year's allotment allot-ment of fish. All three reservoirs have been producing fish at a fair rate. Mar shmal lowworm combination has been the bait of choice. Bear Lake- Trolling for cutthroat trout has been good and some really nice fish are being caught. This week the DWR checked a couple of fish close to 5 lbs and one over 7 lbs. The boat ramps are open and the docks are in and ready for anglers. Many anglers have been fishing at the reservoir recently and they've done well trolling for some nice 14 inch rainbows. The usual trolling gear is working. work-ing. Bank anglers are also catching a few nice rainbows, rain-bows, with best luck at the inlet. i v Weber River- The river is fast and clear. Fish-' ing is good between Wan-ship Wan-ship and Coalville. Remember the new fishing fish-ing regulations on the lower Weber, from Wanship to Echo artificial flies and lures only and a limit of two trout.
