We strive for personal, per-sonal, friendly, and competent care for our patients and their families. Services of the hospital were expanded with construction of a new wing and remodeling of other areas. Included in the new wing addition was an outpatient out-patient area, medical records, pharmacy, central supply, physical therapy facilities, emergency rooms, out-patient rooms, doctors iounge, respiratory respira-tory therapy facilities, and a morgue. large rocm for future expansion in the laboratory was also included. The hospital was re-accredited re-accredited by the Joint Commission Com-mission of Accreditation. This is a benchmark of quality that is higher than governmental licensure licen-sure alone. To help the hospital in its pursuit of exceliance and thereby provide higher quality of care to patients. During National Hospital Week the hospital sponsored a Free Blood Pressure Clinic. This clinic was held under the direction of Dr. Boyd Larsen and was manned by the staff doctors and nurses of the hospital. hospi-tal. Over 508 people took advantage advan-tage of this clinic and had their blood pressure taken. A new parking let was constructed con-structed west of the hospital for use by hospital visitors and employees. em-ployees. This new parking lot supplemented parking areas on the east side of the hospital and the rear of the facility. All accounting work was put onto a computer service operated operat-ed from Salt Lake City by Management Man-agement Systems Corp. It has served to 1) Improve control of accounts receivable.. 2) It has helped to provide understandable understanda-ble billing for patients. 3) It has : helped to contain growth of personnel. per-sonnel. 4) It has helped to have better control of patient charges. 5) It has provided better tools for management. A Thought Tank was installed in Medical Records. This tank is used to handle emergency dictation dicta-tion coming in from the doctors. This phone is hooked to a direct telephone line which enables a doctor to dictate from his office, in this way information can be on a patients chart when he is admitted to the hospital. Fire prevention Smoke Sensors have been installed throughout the hospital, and many patients and visitors have noticed them winking at them as they walk down the halls. The blinking red light indicates all is well, but if smoke should hit them they will quit flashing and set off the fire alarm. There is a control panel in the admitting admit-ting office which also lights up indicating the location of the smoke, and makes it possible to locate the problem and rectify it. A new portable X-ray machine was purchased this year which allows x-ray technicians techni-cians to bring the x-ray equipment equip-ment to the patient. This is of value for patients in the operating operat-ing room undergoing surgery as well as the patients too sick to be moved from the intensive care unit or from the regular hospital floors. .. An Intensive Care Isolctte for use in the nursery of the Mater-- Mater-- nity Floor was presented to the . hospital by members of the Pink "t LadicS Auxiliary. This s&pfiistF't cated unit is used for premature babies born at the hospital, and to aid any baby that has respiratory respira-tory problems following btrth. The March cf Dimes , contributed contri-buted a Hope Resuscitator and Intratracheal Tubes for use in the Maternity Ward. This special rcsusitating equipment is used to give babies having respiratory difficulty at birth: the smount of oxygen they need Jor life. This resuscitator will force the oxygen into the lungs forcing the baby to breathe. A new Respiratory Therapy Department was opened in December and is located in the out-patient department in the new wing. This serves both patients confined to the hospital and those needing treatment for respiratory illness on an outpatient out-patient basis. The department is open from 7:08 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and personnel are equipped with two-way radios and are on call 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The pharmacy department has completed an expansion of facilities and created a new program of drug distribution and services. This new distribution distribu-tion has provided unit dose medication for each patient. New equipment utilized for this program include: labeling and packaging items with a new storage and work area, A new laminar flow hood has been installed in-stalled to provide the most up to date method of supplying sterile pre-filied syringes on the unit dose basis. By implementing this new program, which included includ-ed patient rtedicsticn profiles, American Fork Hospital Pharmacy Phar-macy is employing the most up to date and legally recommended recommend-ed methods available. A new intercom was installed on the Medical Floor and has proved to be a marvelous addition. addi-tion. It allows nurses to answer a patients call light from the nurses station thus saving one . trip to the room on each call. The patients seem to feel nearer to help because their light is answered more promptly than if a nurse has to walk to the room. It truly is a "Life Saver". A naw enzyme analyzer has been added to the hospital lab. The new machine cuts the time in determining if the enzymes , found in the blood are elevated or normal. The enzymes tests are mostly used to diagnosis heart disease. One of the enzyme tests is L.D.H. With the old procedure it took 1 hour and 30 minutes to run this test. With the new analyzer the test can be completed in 3 minutes. A Hubbard Tank was installed in the Physical Therapy Department Depart-ment and is excellent in the treatment of orthopedic patients and is essential in the treatment of burned patients as well as other patients. When filled to capacity the tank holds 425 gallon gal-lon and takes 12 minutes to fill and. 8 minutes tp druin. A hoist on a sjiitg'brdTn aids in the transfer of patients in and out of the tank. A stainless steel warming cupboard cup-board was installed on the Maternity Floor and keeps everything stored in that area a constant temperature. This cupboard cup-board is used for storage of all sterile water ased Si; the delivery deli-very area and other items that must be kept at a desired temperature. tem-perature. - .-rWs- : The governing board, the administrator ad-ministrator and the staff all join together to wish everyone the best in Seasons Greetings and a special wish for a joyous, prosperous, and healthy new year, . , Tis the season to trim trees, sing carols, give gifts . . . and enjoy all the holiday cheer.
