The third grade students at Forbes Elementary School, presented $52 to the animal shelter as part of classroom project. Forbes Third Graders Donate to Humane Society Third grade students at the Forbes Elementary School last week presented $52.78 to a representative of the Humane Society of Utah as part of their classroom study on animals. The students had raised the funds through cupcake sales, Mrs. Maxine Steele, a third grade teacher said. Joining with Mrs. Steele's class for the project pro-ject were the students of Mrs. Gwen Richards and Miss Loretta Luce. Brice Nelson, shelter manager for the Humane Society, accepted accep-ted the funds from the students, and expressed the appreciation of the society for the money. He said the animals shelter is kept going by donations such as those of the children. Mr. Nelson also showed the Greenwood DUP Camp Holds Christmas Party The Greenwood Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers held their December meeting and Christmas Party at the Utah Power and Light Auditorium on Monday, December 4. There were nineteen members and three guests present. Capt. May Austin presided, greeted the members and welcomed wel-comed the guests who were, County Capt. Velma Comer; Historian, His-torian, Nettie Warenski; andRul-on andRul-on Jackman. A Christmas story, "Why the Chimes Rang" was presented by Stella Gardner. A history was given by Garna Riding on her grandfather, Isaac Jameson Riddle. He was born in Pine Valley on December 27, 1857. He lived in polygamy at the time of polygamy, filled an LDS mission mis-sion to England taking his second sec-ond wife with him. He was the father of 19 children. He also raised a cousin of his. He died Sept. 24, 1943 in Escal-ante, Escal-ante, Utah where he was buried. He was 86 years old. The lesson was given by Virginia Faddis on part of the original Diary of Josephine Stre-eper Stre-eper Chase. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., May 6, 1835 a daughter of Wilkinson Streeper and Matilda Wells. In 1840 the family joined the LDS Church and two years later moved to Nauvoo, 111., to Kanesville and from there to the Salt Lake Valley where they arrived in Oct. 185L Josephine was a graduate grad-uate of a Phildelphia college and taught school in the 14th Ward with Sarah Kimball On March 25, 1856 she married George Ogden Chase in the Endowment House. She was his second wife and they were the parents of 15 children, 5 sons and 10 daughters. They lived for a short time at the beautiful Chase Mill House on Chase Farm (now known as Liberty Park.) With her family she moved to Centerville, Cen-terville, Utah in 1860. She was a Sunday School teacher in the Centerville North Ward for many years. She died at her home, Chase Park in Centerville, Utah July 23, 1894. Entertainment was provided by Rulon Jackman who sang and accompanied ac-companied himself on the guitar. He sang "Joy to the World," "O Holy Night," "played Jolly Old St. Nicholas" and "Silent Night" on his harmonica. He concluded with "Somewhere My Love" and he and his wife Emily sang, "Moonlight and Roses." Mrs. Comer gave a few remarks re-marks to the ladies and Erma Wood offered the benediction. Hostesses for the lovely affair af-fair were May Austin, Garna Riding, Harriet Barratt and Erma Wocd. Little Santa favors were given to each one present along with paper napkin tea aprons. combined classes a film entitled "My Dog the Teacher." Dean is a former speaker of the House and was once chairman of the Legislative Council He is director of research at the Utah Technical College in Provo. Another Utah County man, Rep. Howard C. Nielson, Provo, Republican, Re-publican, earlier was named Speaker of the House for the 1973 Legislature. Howe is an attorney in Murray Mur-ray and served six terms in the House.
