Show rV ' .v -.4 J 'ft DR. WILUAM A. HOMER Funeral Services Friday For Dr. Wm. Homer Dr. William Alma Homer died at his home following a short illness Tuesday, August 31. He was born August 5, 1893, in novo to William and Sylvia Bradley Homer. He attended B.Y.U and graduated gra-duated from the University of Denver. Dr. Homer practiced dentistry in Salt Lake and American Am-erican Fork for over 40 years. He married Francell Velma Hutchison May 5, 1917 and later divorced. He married Edith Lyle Healey October 9, 1935, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Dr. Homer was past president of the Utah Dental Soceity. He was past president of the Central Utah Baseball Assn. and former member of the American Fork baseball team, past president and secretary of American Fork Riding Rid-ing Club. He was also a High Preist in American Fork Sixth Ward at the time of his death. His survivors include: widow, children; Mrs. John J. (Miriam) Schmidt, La Jolla, Calif., Mrs. Paul H. (Wilma) Mortensen, Am. Fork, Robert William, Casper, Wyoming, James Healey, Las Vegas, Nevada. One sister; Mrs. Loren (Vanda) Jarrett, Ontario, Calif. Funeral services will be held Sept. 3, at 12 noon in the American Ameri-can Fork Sixth Ward Chapel. Viewing will be at the Anderson Mortuary Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the American Fork City Cemetery. Joseph Hutchinson Dies; Funeral Held Last Monday Joseph Arnel Hutchison,72, 45 N. 3rd W., American Fork, died Saturday morning in his home. He was born April 19, 1899, in' Lake Shore, a son of David and Sarah Leticia McKee Hutchison. He married Velate Lamb on Oct. 14, 1919, in Wales, Sanpete San-pete County. Mr. Hutchison was a member of the LD3 Church in the American Fork Seventh Ward. He was a farmer. Survivors include his widow, American Fork; two sisters, Mrs. Allan (Betty) Burns, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lyle Mooney, Riverside, Calif. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Anderson An-derson and Sons Mortuary. Burial was in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Fork Native, Succumbs at 71 Funeral services for Vaunda Prudence McNeil Shaffer, 71, Salt Lake City, who died last Thursday at her home following a heart attack, were held Monday, Aug. 30, at noon. A native of American Fork, Mrs. Shaffer was born Jan. 31, 1900, to John S. and Alice Dean McNeil. She married Ernest Shaffer on Sept. 5, 1922, in Salt Lake City. She was a member of the LDS Church. Mrs. Shaffer was past supreme chief of the Supreme Temple of Pythian Sisters, the International order; past most excellent chief of Hermoine Temple No. 8, Salt Lake City Order; past grand grand chief of the state of Utah. She was also a committee member of the Salk Polio Foundation Foun-dation and member of the Meriam Rebekah Lodge No. Five. She had been a member of the American Ameri-can Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Salt Lake City; two sons, E. Wayne Shaffer and Lynn J Ward, both Salt Lake City; three grandchildren; grand-children; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Geneva Yates, Salt Lake City. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. F. to Orem The Department of Highways announces that a seal coat with cover material will be applied to U.S. Highway 91, 89, and Alt, 50 between 300 East Street in American Fork and the north Orem City limits, a distance of approximately five miles. The work will be commenced on September 7 (weather permitting), per-mitting), and will take three to four days to complete (again depending on weather conditions). Appropriate signs, flagmen and pilot cars will control traffic through the construction. The Highway Department urges motorists who contemplate using this route to utilize an alternate route if possible during the construction, con-struction, such as Interstate 15, etc. It is requested that if it is necessary to travel this route for business or other purposes, traffic control devices be obeyed, in order to assure a successful seal job, and also to prevent vehicle damage caused by the gravel chips. The State of Utah has experienced expe-rienced this year some damage claims for glass breakage, etc., from vehicles going through this type of construction project at excessive speeds. Too often we take for granted the fine facilities and opportunities opportuni-ties provided in our community. Mr. Wayne Christiansen, president pre-sident of the National League Western Boys Baseball, has done an outstanding service for the young men in the northwest section sec-tion of the community.
