Show Elder Douglas Birk to Participate In Famous Hi!! Cumorah Pageant An announcement has been received re-ceived that a resident of this community has been selected by District Harold I. Hansen to appear ap-pear in the nation's most elaborate el-aborate religious spectaclethe Hill Cumorah Pageant. This year's Pageant the 34th year will be presented at Palmyra, Pal-myra, New York, which is about 25 miles east of Rochester, July 27-August 1. The local resident honored by being chosen as a performer is Elder Douglas Birk. He is a member of the Am. Fork Fifth IDS Ward. Public Employment Jumps 65 Percent Utah's population grew 20 percent per-cent from 1959 to 1969. In the same period, according to the latest release of Utah Taxpay ers Association, public employ ment jumped from 60,310 to 99,-553, 99,-553, or 65 percent. Total Utah employment went up 26 percent from 316,400 in 1959 to 398,550 in 1969. Public employment in the state with 99,553 persons employed, ac counted for 25 percent of all workers. This is one out of four. In 1959, it was one out of five. This is 52 percent above the national na-tional average of 16.4 percent as shown by the Bureau of Census. Cen-sus. The increase since 1949, is 57,053, or 134 percent, and is nearly five times the 1940 figure fig-ure of 21,500. Of these employees, 42,425 are employed by the federal government, gov-ernment, 22,552 by the state government, and 34,576 by the local government. This makes a grand total of 99,553 employed employ-ed by government against 298,997 in all other occupations. In 1959, state and local government govern-ment monthly payrolls were$10. 5 million. In 1969, they had skyrocketed sky-rocketed to 27 million dollars. This amounts to a whopping 157 percent increase. .
