For miles a river will flow along, following Its course smoothly and slowly until a large cataract 'suddenly appears and causes the quiet water to froth In its fall into a turbulence of whirlpools and rapids. In life we may go along for years in our own small course of daily routine until one day we reach a crisis. Sometimes years of cloudless prosperity are at once interrupted by a succession of troubles, just as the river or smooth streamis . broken Into turmoil by the cataract A happy family is entered by death, love Is disappointed, hopes are frustrated, prosperity ceases, adversity comes or , sickness despoils us of our energies. When these things enter our peaceful life it seems we descend, step by step into still more profound pro-found depths of trial and sor row. And finally the rocks and boulders in the stream bed are once again smooth sand and the turbulent, tumbling water again quiets and continues to flow deep and still ever to its desti nation. And from these most profound depths of life we feel the pres ence of God near to our hearts and more clearly do we understand under-stand HIM, from these depths, than we do when the skies are blue and the sunshine is rosy on the hilltops of a happy life. This past week I lost a dear friend in death and felt with the family one of the depths of life. I read in the paper of the three sons of a Utah family who were injured and dismembered by an exploding shell. Automobile accidents, illnesses, men being sent to prison and 80 on, seem to be a part of our modern day lives at some time or another. Remember, if one such should befall you, that behind every dark cloud the sunlight is brglht and the warmth is quick to reach your heart and heal and lighten your burdens. Keep faith and courage and all will "toon be right again. TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR FRIEND Today my heart is heavy, It is overflowing with tears for the loss of one of my dearest friends, Monica Peterson, who died this past week of cancer. Monica will .be remembered by many for constant battle against the dread disease that has swept her away. It seems inconceivable that one so gracious, intelligent, thoughtful and faithful can be gone. Yet she will never be "gone", for all that she was and all that she did for others will live always. She was one person who truly had the faith of a "mustard seed." Who overcome every obstacle ob-stacle In her life with a smile and a gentle word. No bitter ness, no anger, no envy or hate, never an unkind thought entered the fine mind of this gentle girl, who had such great courage. She loved everyone and in her humble way radiated this affec tion whereyer she went.- She was an inspiration to all who had the great fortune to be her friend. We seldom think of this great event of death until its shadow falls across our own pathway, and hides the face of a loved one whose living smile has been a ray of sunshine in our very existance. . This was Monica. "In true terms of accomplish-1 ment, one year is often decades long. She gave more music to one note than many can give to a whole song." Hospital News j Patients at . American .
