This is the whispered word among the youth of the Alpine Stake. For the past couple of years they have been enjoying the wtkly Alpine Stake Youth Dances in the basement of the Tabernacle. Now som changes will be? made a.nfcw place; new chairman; added fun at the -dance. The new co-chairmen for the dances are Kay .Green and Kenneth Beck. They are bubbling bub-bling over with new ideas that will promise bigger and better dances that will be packed with fun! Kathy Eastmond and Larry Phillips were appointed for the decorations committee. 11W . V .?' ; ;, v .4 & Beverly Bowen, Stephen Har-ward, Har-ward, and Richard Anderson head the advertising. In charge of refreshment stand are? Gerald Ger-ald Hansen, Billy Brooks, and Richard Walters. Disc Jockeys to spin out everyone's favorite tunes' will be , Kenneth Crook-ston Crook-ston and Jay Allen. Tht' new .committees would like to offer a vote of thanks to the out-going committees, headed by Sherry Schlegel and Calvin Madsen, for the wonder-fur wonder-fur job they've done. Another big change is the location lo-cation of the Youth Dances. The chosen spot is the old Seminary Sem-inary building. There is plenty of room for dancing, speical rooms for games, and un, hi-fi hi-fi system, and room on the lighted pation for those who want to dance outside. The dances begin tonight, July 20, at 8:30 p.m. The dress is sport (no levis please ) and everyone mutual age is invited invit-ed .Sound fun? Then we'll see you there! Steve Anderson Goes to Georgia Both Aviation Officer Candidate and Naval Aviation Avia-tion Cadet pilot training is broken into three basic programs: pre-flight, basic, and advanced. Pre flight training Is four months, laying a firm foundation founda-tion for a flying career by teaching physical training, train-ing, communications, engineering, essentials . of naval service, gunnery, military organization, aerology, aerol-ogy, principles of -flight and survival. In basic, the AOC or Cadet begins his flying career by spend-ing spend-ing approximately 1 80 hours in the air. Advanced training is specialized, with the pilots going to multi-engines, jets, attack aircraft, or helicopters. soo your NAVY recruiter Steven Anderson It is true what they say about Dixie.- The sun - really does shine most of the time and that famous hospitality is still practiced prac-ticed according to Steven Anderson, Ander-son, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Anderson, who left last week by bus to join his sister Marian at Athens, Georgia. Steven thinks three days and nights is quite a long time to spend on a bus but it is still worth everything once you arrive ar-rive where you are going. Marian in teaching summer school at the University - of Georgia. Steven plans to stay with her until the completion of the school term. They will visit historical and educational points of interest included in which will be the Pageant at Hill Cumorah presented pre-sented each year by the Latter-day Latter-day Saints Church in New York State. They plan to arrive home around the 26th or Juiy. Some 900,000 "Boys and Girls are participating in a 4-H safety activity or " project in which they help to lessen dangers on highways, larms, in homes and communities, reports the Co-aperatlve Co-aperatlve Extension Service. Right now when millions of motorists take to the road for week end outings or long await ed vacations, chances for accidents acci-dents mount. Motor vehicle accidents top the list, says the National Safety Council. Over the long 4th of July week end, a record number of people died because of accidents. The death toll among rural people is exceptionally high, according ac-cording to the safety council. Over the last 10 years, 58,000 rural residents died and two million were injured on the highway. Fatal ac6idents for a decade increased 26 per cent. Tractor fatilitles climbed 50 over the last eight years. While 4-H Club members rep resent a small number of the 82 million automobile drivers they dp a commendable job in elimin atlng driving hazards in their communities -the year round. Members also check for health and recreation hazards, home safety and safe handling of ani mals, according to the Extension Extens-ion Service wjiich supervises the work. These and other deeds merit specific awards provided for the 17th consecutive year by General Motors. They consist of scholarships', educational trips, certificates and honor medals for outstanding 4-H'ers who have made safety their No. 1 crop. Training aids for local club leaders and members- are also made available. Next November, 8 top ranking rank-ing 4-H'ers will be named national nat-ional safety champions and receive re-ceive $400.00 scholarships.
