Safety Council Charts Signs of Life Program "Stop on ' the red, go on the green. Don't sneak through on the in-between!" This bit of rhyming advice was given today to Utah pedestrians pedest-rians by Myron J. Fulrath, President, Pres-ident, Utah Safety Council. Mr. Fulrath reminded walkers that the Signs of Life program which the Safety Council is sponsoring spon-soring this month applies to pedestrians as well as motorists. Too many walkers expect drivers to accept all the responsibility respon-sibility for traffic safety," "he said. "They Ignore the traffic signs and signals provided for their protection, and very often their carelessness costs ' them their lives." The Safety Council spokes man said that, last year alone 7,-900 7,-900 pedestrians were killed In traffic accidents. It is his belief that many of these persons might be alive today if they had heeded the Signs of Life. According to Mr. Fulrath, some of the unsafe practices in dulged in. by these unfortunate walkers were: crossing against the signal at intersections, cross lng intersections diagonally, and crossing between Intersections. "Such careless actions invite disaster," he said, "and our pe destrian death toll will remain high as long as walkers have so little regard for their own safe ty." He ureed all Utahns to make it a habit to obey traffic lights at Intersections , and signals at railroad crossings, to cross only at Intersections whenever pos sible, and to use crosswalks when they are provided. . MODERN AIR CONDITIONING n , 1 ' V: t by Orviile Gunther Part IV What's new in air conditioning? condition-ing? ' This is a question we at Gun-ther's Gun-ther's are called upon to answer very often. : v To list all that is new In air conditioning equipment would take more space than this short column affords. 1 However, the following is the newest: We have recently obtained the franchise for ; the General Electric Weathertron. This is a unit about twice the size of your j refrigerator that performs the i five functions of year around air! conditioning" (namely heating, cooling, cleaning, ventilating, and humidifying or dehumldlfylng) with one single mechanical operation, op-eration, all without fuel. That is right no gas, no oil, no 'coal. Your house with this unit Is completely air conditioned year around with electricity. The power company cable that runs from the utility pole to - your house carries aJl- the energy to perform this complex function, You ask, "But Isnt it too expensive ex-pensive to heat with electricity?" The answer is, "No, not with a General Electric Weathertron." The reason for this lies in the fact that the weathertron does not produce heat itself. It sim ply transfers heat from the outdoor out-door air to the inside air of the house In the winter time and from the inside air to the outside out-side air in the summer time. How it does this we will try to explain to you next week. AMERICAN FORK, UTAH Telephone 607 r .
