It is well that our citizens give more than a passing thought to the debt they owe to the home town merchant and that this debt he -repaid by giving u them the trade of the cojuinunity. a trade that is rightfully theirs, a trade well vanwd. The truth of the matter is. mir merchants are selling goods at, or less, than city prices, and if we will be fair enough to admit that it costs money to go to the city- car or bus fare, gasoline, wear aiid tear of the ear, time spent and shoe leather worn mil it is, alter all is said and done cheaper to trade nt honn saying nothing of the spirit of reciprocity, of doing all we can for the home-tow n merchants. who do as much lor us. o COLLIDGrE ON PROHIBITION ifi ifi ifi ifi ifi ifi ifi !fi ifi ifi ifi ifi REPORT TO THE STATE BANK COMMISSIONER OF CONDITION OF The Bank of American Fork AT THE CLOSE OF BUSINESS DECEMBER 31st, 1025 -' Hi t.uo,i estimates required to be furnished by the virlm.. a-- aecncles and Instltutloni and aUo.by a itatement howD? th.fln3., K of the County by funds as of September 30th.. 1925, a5d 10 the 'J, financial condition by fuftd at the close of the current calendar if1 Whereas, notice of the meeting of the County Commisnlonpr. f ni1, adontlon of the budset for 1926, has been published In the EvM i nempaper printed In Provo City,' Utah and havlnr a general etrculalu?5 in t'tiih County at least two weeks before the 36th. day 0f IcemW L i --I LC ! .. . 1J; ..whereas, a public hearing has been allowed on the said tentative b A S I pr'ior'to this date. . Too many people in charge of enforcing laws think it their business busi-ness to criticize the laws. Any citizen or taxpayer can do that properly prop-erly and honestly but no executive can do it. It is the duty of an executive official to enforce the law without inquiring whether it is good or bad. If it is a bad law, all the more-it should be enforced m that the people, seeing that it is bad, will repeal it. An executive official cannot repeal a law. Gen. Grant said the common-sense thing about the ease when he remarked that the quickest way to get rid of a bad law was to enforce en-force it. O IN MEMORIAM During the year just closed many noted people died. Included are: Queen Alexandra; Frederick Kbert, president of Germany; William Jennings Bryan; Thomas R. Marshall; Senator LaFollvtte; Senator Ladd of North Dakota ; Senator Medill McCormiek of Illinois ; Senator Spencer of Missouri; Warren S. Stone, labor leader; Victor P. Lawson. publisher; Christy Matthewson; John Singer Sargent painter; Walter Camp; Cannille Flanarion noted astronomer; Gener: al Nelson A. .Miles; Clara Morris, famous actress; Amy Lowell, poet; Herbert Quick, editor and author; and Frank. A. Munsey, publisher. So, it goes from year to year. START THE NEW YEAR RIGHT ,You never know when 5'ou are going to need credit. Perhaps it meanti little to you now you are not contemplating any venture that will require a little capital. Hut whether you are a farmer, laborer, or office worker, the time may come when you will want to try something some-thing bigger, and to make that trial you will need to borrow -.-money. If you have always been careful to pay up your small bills promptly you will have a reputation that will enable you to get the needed capital and put the venture through successfully. Hut if you have been careless, then you will find money scarce and tight no matter mat-ter how prosperous the times may be. The editor has had occasion to go through his subscription accounts ac-counts recently, lie has found there the names of many local citizens who really intend to pay their bills but who are in the habit of neglecting neg-lecting small accounts. They never realize the importance of being known as good pay. Think this over today. List all the small bills you are owing the business men around town. And go out immediately and square up, Then make it a practice to pay all bill as soon as they fall dtie, and people will begin to say of you. "He's good pay." Such a reputation may some day be worth more to vuu than several thousand dollars on deposit in the bank. Q . - j - One reason why the bootlegging business is crowded is because the jails aren't.
