Heather Johnson, a junior at American Fork High School, is one of the 30 student selected to represent rep-resent Utah high schools at a Lead' ership Conference sponsored by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. Heather was recently honored by the Utah Chapter at a banquet held at Little America in Salt Lake City. Founded in 1959, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge is a national, non-profit, non-sectarian, non-partisan institution established to educate, promote and encourage Americans to become more responsible, respon-sible, more involved citizens. The Freedoms Foundation believes be-lieves that "the young people of America stand as future custodians custodi-ans and trustees of our national freedoms and will either guard or compromise them depending upon their understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship." Heather will leave April 9 to join other students from across the nation where they will learn to develop an appreciation and enthusiasm en-thusiasm for responsible citizenship. Johnson was sustain as bishop of the 18th Ward in the American Fork Stake on Sunday, March 4. His counselors are Mark Gra ham Hadlock and Mark Shettell. Executive secretary Wayne Larsen and ward clerk Mike Curtis were retained. Released were Bishop Ronald Turner, and counselors Lynn Hunter and Scott Deveraux. Rinne of Highland is one of two faculty members at the BYU Mariott School of Management Man-agement to win the Exxon Teaching Teach-ing Excellence Award for 1989-90. Dr. Doyle W. Buckwalter, of Orem, is the other recipient. K. Fred Skousen, dean of the school of management, said of the two recipients: "Doyle Buckwalter and Heikki Rinne represent the finest aspects of teaching. Both have received outstanding student evaluations evalu-ations and peer reviews. "Dr. Rinne is known for the time he commits to his students outside the classroom and the deep interest inter-est he shows in their personal and professional well-being," he said. Rinne teaches business management manage-ment classes at BYU as an associate associ-ate professor. Before joining BYU in 1984, he ta.ought at Pennsylvania Pennsylva-nia State University and was a graduate instructor at Purdue University as well as a lecturer at Northern Michigan University. He earned a doctorate from Purdue University in 1981, a master mas-ter of business administration degree from the University of Oregon Ore-gon in 1976 and a bachelor's degree in business administration from BYU, where he graduated summa cum laude. Winners named at Forbes Science Fair the Forbes Elementary School Sci-, ence Fair held March 7 and 8 at the school. David, a fifth grade student, stu-dent, entered a project on "which antacid neutralizes the most stomach stom-ach acid," Second place went to Amy Parks, third grade, for her entry on "which colors affect the temperature of water the most," and third place to Andy Ingersoll, fifth grade, for his project on "the real thing-mass, volume, density." Superior ratings were given to fourth grade students Derek Larsen for his entry of "molecular diffusion," diffu-sion," Natalie Tomlinson, "what happens to colors when they spin?," Melany Roberts, "what colors of cloth hold their color longest under the ultra-violet rays of the sun?" and Heidi Howcroft, "how much water is in an orange." Second grade - Nicole Taylor, "time;" Bryt Christensen, "evaporation "evapo-ration and the color of water,-" Chris Jeffs, "magnets;" Brandon Dansie, "how much salt does it take to float an egg." Third grade - Lisa Smith, "does air have weight?;" Maren Briem, "temperature effects on capillary actidrif Dallas Krommenhoeky "fingerprints,-" Brandon Engles, "how yeastmakes bread rise;"Todd Morris, "the wind tunnel."
