Inspired by the loss of one of their top players in senior Wes Talbot, who is currently undergoing treatment for a serious illness at Primary Children's Medical Center, , the Bruins dominated from the start en route to the easy win. "We knew that Orem was fast, we knew they were physical, that they were great players, and we knew we had to play our best game today," said Mountain View coach Mark Graham. "We dedicated this game to Wes. It's sad something like that happened, but it did bring the kids together." Although Mountain View struggled to score goals in the first matchup between the two teams that ended in a (1-0 tie, the Bruins found the back of the net early and often of-ten the second time around. After controlling possession for much of the opening 20 minutes, Mountain View's Allen Carlson controlled at the top of the penalty box, turned and fired a strike into the goal to put the Bruins up 1-0. Less than 10 minutes later, Mountain View goalkeeper Michael Chesler came Up with a save and quickly booted the ball dowhfield to Renzo Sanchez who flicked the ball over Orem keeper Cameron Clark's head and into the goal to give the Bruins Bru-ins a 2-0 lead that held up, until halftime. Not content to simply maintain its 2-0 advantage, Mountain View tallied its third goal just two minutes into the second half. Mountain Moun-tain View midfielder Javier Pastrana broke free down the right side of the field and crossed the ball to Jake Parkinson Par-kinson who put a beautiful header into the left side of the goal for a 3-0 lead. "We were on the attack from the go," Graham Said. "We controlled possession, we knocked it around. The chances we had today, we've had every game we played, but we finished them." After several minutes of putting intense pressure on the Orem defense, the Bruins broke through for their final goal when Leo Saban won a loose ball in the box and got just enough of his foot onto CRAIG OILQERNorth County Orem's Tyler Moss (8) and Mountain View's Alex Jewkes fight for control of the ball on Tuesday. The Bruins won the game 4-0. the ball to send it weakly into the right side of the net for the game's final score. Orem had its own chances to tally a goal, however each of its bids to deprive Chesler of his eighth shutout of the year came up short. Early in the first half, the Tigers put a shot into the net, but it was after the referee had said the bail went out of bounds. Later in the second half, Orem's Tyler Boulter put a shot on frame, but Chesler was there to make an outstretched out-stretched save. Orem's best chance in the second half occurred on a 4-on-2 break, however, Chesler was there for yet another of his many outstanding saves during the contest. "There's a lot of good keepers in the state, but from our point of view, he's the best keeper in the state," Graham said. "He's the one that we want in the goal for us." Aiding Chesler's cause in the back was defender CJ Gardner who helped make the keeper's job easier. The biggest key for the Bruins' success was the play of the midfield. Saban, Sanchez, San-chez, Alex Madsen and Sam Atoa helped Mountain View maintain possession in the middle and get the offense started by making plays. "Orem's as good as anybody we've played, but we put it together to-gether today," Graham said. "I think this is our best game we played all year." In addition to Mountain View's team dedicating the game to the ailing Talbot, Orem players wrote his number num-ber 17 on their arms to show their support of the opposing team in a move Graham described de-scribed as "very classy." With the win Mountain View (5-1-2, 7-2-3) moved into sole possession of first place in Region 7 while Orem (4-2-1, 7-2-1) will now have to play catch up if they hope to repeat as region champions.
