Between the years 1997 and 2005, rhe number of renters using more than half their income for housing costs increased from I million to 11 million. During that same time period, rhe number of homeowners who paid more than half their income for housing increased only 75 percent (from 1.4 million to 14 million). Among other things, this study indicates that renters may be having a more difficult rime keeping op with housing costs.
