American 1 Ieritage added a ninth grade this year to its program, a beginning step to make the sch(X)l a K-12 sch(xl. "The parents have wanted this for a long time," said principal Grant Beck with. His staff originally thought they would only have alxnit 13 ninth graders, and they were ready to start. But when word got out to the community in April, their enrollment almost doubled. "We've had more than we anticipated for ninth grade," said Beckwith. Beckwith has blueprints in his office showing plans in two years for an addition to AHS that will house the school's high school. Schxl officials anticipate there will be a solid need and desire for a high school. "They really want this experience," Beckwith said. As an example, he cited two students who came in just in the last two weeks, and paid their own $4,400 tuition. " Their parents told them they couldn't afford the tuition, but (the students) wanted this experience so much, they worked over the summer to pay for it themselves. I was very impressed," Beckwith said. Ben Patch from Alpine worked all summer at the Peppermint Place in Alpine to earn his tuition money. He said he did cashiering, stocking, working the sno cone booth, "whatever they wanted me to do."
