Unless they were referring to recent Timpanogos High grad Silas Pimentel they were all dead wrong. The words 'fastest' or 'best' denote exclusivity, as there can only be one person who fits those descriptions. And for Pimentel, who recently committed to Utah State, it feels pretty darn good to be the one it portrays. "You really can't even describe de-scribe it," Pimentel said referring refer-ring to how it feels to be the fastest runner in the state. "I don't like going around bragging brag-ging to people but just seeing what I'm capable of, it feels amazing. I really can't explain the feeling." The track star's most memorable memo-rable feelings came last month at the Utah State Track Championships. Cham-pionships. Already an elite sprinter, Pimentel had a historic his-toric performance as he placed first in the 100 and 200 meters, and anchored Timpanogos' 4x400 and 4x100 meter relay teams. Even more surprising than his high finishes in each event was the manner in which he accomplished the feats. His victory in the 200m was his second in a row. In the 4x400, Pimentel passed five runners on the final lap to secure a second-place team finish for MARIO RUIZNorth County. In the 4x100 Pimentel came from behind to lead his team to the win with a time that barely missed the state record. "For sure that was the most exciting 4x1 I've ever run," Pimentel said. "When I got the baton, I was 10-15 feet behind but I just chased him down. I didn't give up at all in the final leg, I just kept going after and I dove for the finish line." Finally, Pimentel broke the 5A state record in the 100m final with a time of 10.66. "It just felt really good because be-cause I'd been working out so hard the whole season," Pimentel Pimen-tel said. "I'd been preparing and getting ready for it for a long time." Although his time at state was scorching, it was still .12 seconds off of his personal best time of 10.54 which was run last summer in Texas at a USA track and field junior regional meet. Had Pimentel run that time in the state, it would have been the fastest ever by a high school sprinter in Utah. Pimentel's state meet performance per-formance was so good that coach Jody Benson commented that without him the T'Wolves Why Choose Bear River Mutual For Auto & Homeowners Insurance? Although Pimentel Pimen-tel carried his team onto the podium, he quickly points the finger back at his coaches for his success. "My coaches really did help a lot," Pimentel said. "Tony Glover and Jody Benson pushed me as hard as they needed to. They knew exactly what they were doing." For Pimentel's mentors, the admiration is mutual. Owlz offense gets on track in pair of wins over Ogden DAItY MIKAID Like Monday night, the Orem Owlz fell behind early to their 1-15 rivals, the Ogden Raptors. But on Tuesday, the Owlz needed less time to make a comeback in a 10-7 victory over the Raptors at Lindquist Field. Orem scored nine runs combined in the second and third innings to win its second straight in the series against Ogden after the Owlz scored seven runs in the ninth to win the night before. Much like when it put six runs on the board Monday in the second inning, Ogden (44) struck early with three runs in the first inning Tuesday. After Elian Herrera hit an RBI single with no outs, the Raptors' Jeremy Brown followed fol-lowed with a two-run homer to give Ogden the three-run cushion. But after going three up, three down in the first inning, the Orem offense woke up in the second, scoring four runs. Gordie Gronkowski started out the inning with a single, and Christopher Garcia followed fol-lowed with a double to left. Then an error by Ogden second sec-ond baseman Herrera allowed both Gronkowski and Garcia to score. Trevor Pippin loaded the bases with a single, and Gregory Dini brought in two more runs with a triple to center cen-ter field. In the third inning, the Owlz (5-3) again got runners on the bases quickly. The first batter, bat-ter, Jay Brossman, doubled to left, then Gronkowski singled to right. After a hit by pitch.
