A 10-block by 10-block area in Orem was declared an infestation emergency May 17 by state agricultural officials. The pesticide spraying program is aimed at eradicating the destructive beetles, which are considered a threat to yards and agriculture. "So far the program seems to be running smoothly," said Larry Lewis of the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. "They are covering a lot of ground." On Friday, TruGreen ChemLawn of Utah began spraying on the southern part of the area using one truck, and Monday they moved on to cover the central area with three trucks. "We can finish about 60 homes per day, per truck," said Clint Bursitt of the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. Bursitt is working in Orem with those spraying the yards. UTAH GUARD'S APACHE ATTACK HELICOPTER TO MAKE SUMMERFEST STOP - Summerfest goers who spy a sinister-looking olive drab painted helicopter looming over Orem on Saturday shouldn't be alarmed it's simply a planned demonstration visit of one of the Army's most lethal rotor aircraft. The AH-64 attack helicopter, dubbed the Apache (many Army helicopters si. ice the Vietnam War have been named after American Indian tribes) entered service in the mid-1980s and has seen action in U.S. conflicts including Grenade, the Persian Gulf War and the current War on Terror in Afghanistan and Iraq, according ac-cording to GlobalSecurity.org. Hank Mclntire, a spokesman for the Utah Army National Guard. Members of unit and their Apaches were deployed de-ployed to Afghanistan during 2004-2005, he said.
