I ni'i "rnmmo mmm Obituaries Mary Fern Madsen Woolley Mary Fern Madsen Woolley, 92, of American Fork passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2006. She was born February Febru-ary 4, 1914 in Monroe, Utah, the third of nine children, to Nephi and Mary Jane Baldwin Madsen. She married Earl Wright Wool- ley, June 14, 1933 in Richfield, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Fern grew up in Sevier County and attended schools there. After the death of her father, she quit school to help support the family. fam-ily. Because of her commitment to education, Fern completed her high school education at age 69, graduating with honors. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working work-ing in her flower gardens and being outdoors. Her greatest love was for her family. Fern was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully faith-fully in many callings including Relief Society President of the Pleasant Grove Third Ward. She loved fanlily history and served as Captain of the Manila Camp of the DUP. She is survived by her six children: Colleen Sorenson, West Valley; Doril Watson, Provo; Ruth Nielsen, An chorage, AK; Earl (Anita) Woolley, Orem; Mary (Greg) Buck-lew, Buck-lew, Saratoga Springs; Allen Al-len (Lynette) Woolley, Rose Hill, KS; 39 grandchildren, grand-children, 96 great grandchildren; grand-children; 39 great great grandchildren; grandchil-dren; four siblings: Dean Hamblin Charles Madsen, Katie Piatt and Robert Madsen. She was preceded preced-ed in death by her husband EarL two daughters, a grandson, three great grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Friday, November 24, 2006 in the American Fork 27th Ward Chapel, Cha-pel, 165 North 350 West, American Ameri-can Fork where friends called before the services. Ray Howes - - Ray Howes, (Piute), age 85, died December 10, 2006. He was born December 22, 1920 in American Ameri-can Fork, Utah to John Henry Howes and Mary Ellen Greenwood. Green-wood. Married Mar-ried to Elaine Miller Howes for 62 years; solemnized in the Manti Temple. Ray lived several years in Standardville, Utah where his Father, was a miner. His mother passed away there when Ray was 8 years old. Afterwards they moved back to American Fork where Ray graduated from American Fork High School. He served in the Air Force and Army Navy as a pilot trainer during World War II. Following the war Ray entered Stevens-Henager College in accounting. ac-counting. He was employed at Geneva Steel plant for 32 years and sold cars for Stoker Motor Company in Tooele. Ray enjoyed singing, hunting, fishing and being be-ing in the outdoors, particularly up American Fork Canyon. Ray was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities with singing and music. Ray loved his family and being with his friends. He is survived by his wife, Elaine M. Howes (Am. Fork); Gary Howes, wife Kay (deceased) (Lehi); Curt J. Howes, wife DeLana (Salt Lake). His daughter, Susan, passed away in a tragic accident in 1970. He has 6 granddaughters and 1 deceased grandson, 13 surviving great grandchildren. His 2 brothers, Earl and James preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork LD.S. 21st Ward Building (261 N. 900 E.) preceded by a viewing from 9:45 - 10:45am. A viewing will also be held Thursday evening at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, (49 E 100 N), in American Fork from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the American Ameri-can Fork City Cemetery. George Russell Roberts "Russ" Russ Roberts, from American Fork, passed away peacefully on Dec 8, 2006 at the age of 89 1K2 years old. Russ was born on June 12, 1917 to John Alfred and Lillie May Cunningham Roberts in Lehi, Utah. He was the 4th of 8 children. He was married on April 18, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Fern Mary Wagstaff. Russ worked on the farm with his father when he was young and then worked at Geneva Steel Plant for 33 years. He was a very hard worker. He was very handy and built the house that they lived in all their married lives. He enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling. They traveled extensively exten-sively through the United States and Canada. He is survived by his wife, Fern, and his children: Fred (Kit) Roberts, Tooele; Diane (DeVon) McPhie, American Fork; and Janelle (Gerald) Nay, Gunnison; sisters, Dorothy Huggard, Lehi and Donna (Francis) Cook, Cedar Fort, and a brother, Richard (Helen) (Hel-en) Roberts, CA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec 14, 2006 at 11 am in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary Mortu-ary Chapel, 49 E 100 N, American Fork with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 9:30-10:45 am prior to the services. Clyde Taylor Higginson Clyde Taylor Higginson, 89, of St. George, longtime resident of Pleasant Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2006. He was born April 12, 1917 in Hatch, Idaho to George Taylor and Al-zina Al-zina Loveland Higginson. He married Thelma Gun- on November Novem-ber 11, 1942 in Las Vegas. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple. Clyde and Thelma raised seven children in the Pleasant Pleas-ant GroveLindon area. Thelma passed away December 9, 1986. He married Ethel Meiners Orton on December 29, 1987 in the Jordan Jor-dan River Temple. Clyde grew up on the family ranch in Hatch, Idaho, the youngest young-est of six children. He graduated from Pocatello High and Utah State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He served as Captain of a B-29 in the Army Air Corp during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Clyde was a professional rodeo cowboy and coached the first BYU intercollegiate rodeo team. He retired from Geneva Steel after af-ter 34 years of service. Clyde and Ethel served in the Rochester New York Mission from 1988-89 on the Peter Whit-mer Whit-mer Farm. They made their home in St. George and later at the Legacy Retirement Residence in South Jordan. He is survived by his wife Ethel; children: Sharon Ann (Richard) (Rich-ard) Jensen, Sandy; Linda Joy (Jon) Perkins, Idaho Falls; Steven Clyde (Dolores) Higginson, Hig-ginson, American Amer-ican Fork; Rosemary (Jim) Yates, Flint Hill, VA; Debra (Robert) (Rob-ert) Barton, Mesa, AZ; Del Higginson, Highland; Kraig (Jeannette) Higginson, Orem; 257 grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great greatgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother: Cyril Higginson; foster daughter, Debbie Deb-bie Gibson. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Kenneth Jensen and Scott Higginson and foster son, Gordon Farnsworth. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Timpanogos Third Ward Chapel, 193 North 400 East, Pleasant Grove. Friends called Tuesday at the church from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 72. Jack Ray Boren Jack Ray Boren, 81, of Pleasant Grove passed away on December 8th, 2006, of congestive heart and lung disease. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, grand-father, greatgrandfather great-grandfather and friend. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and his enthusiasm for life will surely be missed. Jack was born the eighth of nine children to Archie and Myrtle Myr-tle Daybell Boren on December 28, 1924, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He married Sedella Dean on June 1, 1943 in Pleasant Grove. Shortly after their marriage, Jack, served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He survived the sinking of the USS Shelton on which he served. Jack and Sedella Sedel-la lived in Provo for a few years after the war and then moved to Pleasant Grove where they raised their family. Jack retired from Geneva Steel after working there for 40 years. His last years at Geneva were working in the rolling mill as a speed operator. After retirement he worked part time for a number num-ber of years for Niels Fugal Sons Company. Jack was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served continuously for more than 40 years as a ward clerk or financial clerk serving in many bishoprics. Jack is survived by his wife Sedella, children, Jack D Boren (Elizabeth), San Jose, California; Jill B. Fugal (Daniel), Pleasant Grove, (serving a mission in Oregon); Grandchildren: Scott Boren (Peggy), Jeremy Boren (Alicia), Brooke B. Ford (Chris), Brandon Fugal (Lacey), Cameron Fugal (Danielle), Patrick Fugal, Matthew Fugal (Kathleen), and 20 Great-Grand Children. Jack is also survived by his sisters: Thelma Swenson Ash and Anna Adamson and his brother, Lloyd Boren. His brothers Lavell and Glen and sisters Effie, Verona and Lucille preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Grovecreek Tenth Ward Chapel, 475 North 700 East, Pleasant Grove. Friends called Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, Mortu-ary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 72. Elliot graduated from Lehi High SchooL He served in the Santiago West, Chile mission. He is now working on his Business Management Manage-ment degree at UVSC. Adamson . , Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Arlen Ray Adamson, 73, passed away at home on December 10, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully peaceful-ly surrounded by his loving family. Arlen was born the 5th of 7 children to Byron and Maud Adamson in Pleasant Grove, Utah, on September Sep-tember 21, 1933. He grew up in Pleasant Grove where he spent his childhood on the family farm near the mouth of Grove Creek Canyon. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1951 and then joined the Navy serving during the Korean War from 1952-1956. Upon his release from military service he married his sweetheart Janice Spainhower on November 8, 1957 and they had 3 children. The marriage was later solemnized and the family was sealed together for eternity on June 19, 1975 in the Provo Temple. Arlen worked at Geneva Steel for over 30 years, retiring in 1984. He then worked for Alpine School District for 12 years. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and family reunions. Spending time with family and friends, especially in the outdoors, was the joy of his life. He could always be found sitting in a chair whittling something for the grandkids, reading family histories, or telling a great story. His sense of humor will really be missed. Arlen wasnt overly concerned about obtaining the material things in life. He took very good care of what he had. He could always be found fixing something or otherwise tinkering tinker-ing around, and it was usually focused on helping someone else. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a High Priest, has served in various scouting positions, and was a faithful home teacher. Arlen is survived by his wife, Janice, and children Brad (Suzanne) (Su-zanne) Adamson of Orem, Cyndie (Tim) Stephens of Kaysville, Judie (Kent) Iverson of Lehi, 12 grandchildren grand-children and 2 great grandchildren. grandchil-dren. He is also survived by a sister sis-ter Virginia (Leo) Ault of Pleasant Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mariam and Janice, and brothers Grant, Boyd, and Nyle. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15th, at 1:00 pm in the American Fork 20th Ward (Stake Center) located at 825 East 500 North in American Fork. Dessa Marie Black Johnson Our loving mother, grandmother, grandmoth-er, great -grandmother, and sister, Dessa Marie Black Johnson, 88, returned to her Heavenly Heav-enly Father on Monday, December 11, 2006 at her home in Lin-don. Lin-don. She was born January Janu-ary 9, 1918 in Payson to Marion Jolley and Sylvia Blen Gardner Black. She married Oliver Carl Johnson on October 17, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. Oliver passed away in 1983. Marie attended schools in Sego and Payson. In high school she won a prestigious national penmanship pen-manship award for her excellent handwriting. Marie's life was a life of service. ser-vice. She delighted in serving as a daily volunteer for handicapped children at Lindon Elementary. She served in the PTA and belonged be-longed to the Lady Lions Club. In appreciation for her continuous hours of service, her community honored her as Woman of the Year. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in all the auxiliaries as president, counselor, coun-selor, and teacher. She and Oliver served together in the Provo Temple. Her family was her greatest delight. de-light. Holidays and day trips with grammy were always special. She enjoyed trips with her sisters over the years. She is survived by her three children: Marion "Mick" Karl (Maureen) Johnson, Lindon; Connie (Alan) Bahr, Orem; Sally (Ramon) Gray, Lindon; 13 grandchildren; grand-children; 27 great-grandchildren; sister: Bonnie Frank, Provo; sister-in-law: Jerry Black, Payson. She was preceded in death by her infant in-fant son, Oliver Paul Johnson and grandson, Craig Victor Johnson.
