Show Times Newspaper Thursday, June 3, 2004 Page All GOOD SAM CLUB CLEANS UP continued from Page Al advantage of the 10 percent discount they receive at most RV parks. It doesn't take many stays to earn back the modest cost of a membership. The organization's monthly magazine, Highways, is only available to members and is regarded as one of the best of the half-, dozen or so major RV periodicals. Locally, there are presently 28 chapters of Good Sam Club members throughout Utah, headed by Bernie Vorhees, State Director. , Each chapter has approximately 20 RV rigs in its membership. However, RVing together throughout the country is not the only activity in which Good Sam Club members are engaged. Members of the Good Sam Club throughout the United States and Canada recently engaged in the 9th Annual Good Sam International Cleanup Day activities May 15 -17. The entire Good Sam Club Cleanup program is a part of the National Cleanup effort, "Take Pride in America." The theme for this year was "Getting Ready for Summer" and the Good Sam Club enlists the help of its members, as well as the general public, to clean lands and highways. "This has become one of our most popular pop-ular volunteer events each year," said Grem member Lynn Gray. "Chapters are urged to do charitable work and to give ideas and incentives for being helpful to needy organizations," he said. "Sections of roads may be cleaned, city parks cleaned, picnic tables scraped and painted, Boy Scout facilities repaired, cleaned up and painted." Members of the local Good Sam Club are now preparing to attend the Utah State Samboree in Nephi, being held June 9-12. "Let Freedom Ring" will be the theme of the statewide activity, which will see over 300 recreation vehicles, converging on the Juab County Fairgrounds for the four-day event. Gray, who is also the historianphotographer historianphotog-rapher for the Utah State Good Sams, said, "Over the last eight years, hundreds of chapters have cleaned state, provincial and national parks, highways and locales, across the continent each year. Good Sam members have collected nearly 31,000 bags of trash in this year's cleanup activities, activi-ties, and last year over 10,000 people participated par-ticipated in Good Sam Club's national efforts in parks across the continent."
