Show School tudent News sssm Page A5 Juniors from Orem YountT men and wnmen from Orem and across America will once again have an opportunity to participate in citizenship training provided pro-vided by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. These youth are chosen while in their junior year in high school. They attend an intensive inten-sive week of training as they set up their own city, county, and state governments and administer them according to Kimberly Barton Kimberly Barton, daughter of Clyde and Wendy Barton, attends Orem High School where she is an enthusiastic participant in events and activities. She is a member of the National Honor Society, FCCLA, and Key Club. Kimberly plays the cello with the Utah Valley Youth Philharmonic. Her interests include reading, music, physical physi-cal fitness and developing homemaking skills. She plans to attend BYU-Idaho following high school graduation. Jessica Hessing Jessica Ann Hessing was born in Boise, Idaho and has lived in Orem, Utah for 16 years. She comes from a family fami-ly of four. She loves to dance, camp, hike, boat and spend time with her family. She loves to learn and be involved in leadership positions. She is currently on Mountain View's student council as Junior Class Secretary. She also serves on the Orem City youth council as the City Manager. She is on the Drill team at Mountain View. Jessica is honored hon-ored to be chosen as a Girls State Delegate. Caitlin Anderson Caitlin Anderson attends Timpanogos High School where she is on the Honor roll with a cumulative GPA of 3.95. As a member of PACK, the school's Peer Leadership organization, she has served as Historian and Public Relations Officer. Caitlin belongs to National Honors Society, participates on the Girl's Tennis team, and is a manager for the Boy's Wrestling Team. Also, she serves on the Orem Youth Council this year as Spring Service Coordinator. Caitlin appreciates and thanks the American Legion Auxiliary for the opportunity to attend Girl's State. The young men attend Weber State in Ogden and the young women s sessions ses-sions are held on the Campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. This learning experience will better bet-ter familiarize the participants partici-pants with their duties as United States citizens, and will encourage their participation partici-pation in the democratic process as they progress into adulthood. Rebecca Gilbert Rebecca Gilbert was bora May 21, 1987 in Orem, Utah. Rebecca has loved playing sports her whole life and has always loved to learn. When she was three years old she was reading, and in Kindergarten she was reading "The Boxcar Children." Rebecca plans on being an English Major and becoming a publicist. She loves to read, write and spend time with friends and family, travel, and just have a good time. Rebecca loves her family and friends very much and enjoys being around them. Diane Maddox Diane Maddox is the daughter daugh-ter of John and Linda Maddox of Orem, Utah. She is a junior at Mountain View High School. She is excited to attend girl's state and learn more about the political process' of the state. Her interests include: Skiing, hiking, singing, writing and serving others. She is active in Ladies Acappella choir, Acappella choir, and symphonic symphon-ic band. She is on the student senate at her school. She has one older brother and two younger sisters. Diane likes to travel with her family and friends, and hopes to go on an operation smile trip to help people in third world countries that have cleft hpspallets. Brittney Andrews Brittney Andrews is a junior jun-ior at Timpanogos High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and serves on the French Club Council. She enjoys playing piano and. singing in the A Capella choir. When she graduates gradu-ates from college, she hopes to teach junior high math. She is a beautiful young women with a special spirit. Someday, she will make a great wife and mother. She attends Orem High School and has been on the Honor Roll throughout her high school career. Amanda has played on the Orem High tennis team for the past two years, and received a varsity letter last year. Amanda is very active musically and sings in the Orem High Chamber Choir. She has also played the piano for several years. Amanda was recently chosen cho-sen to be Orem High's fashion representative for Alysse's Bridal and Prom wear. She will be participating in the fashion shows throughout the summer and next year. Her hobbies include signing, sign-ing, traveling, interior design and exercising. She is currently employed at the Orem Library. Stephanie Winward Stephanie Winward, daughter daugh-ter of Clayton and Tawny Winward of Orem, Utah has been selected to attend Girls State at Southern Utah University. She is currently a junior at Orem High School with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She participates in cross-country, track, and lacrosse. She has played the French Horn for five years and currently plays with the Orem High Wind Orchestra. She has been a Girl Scout for twelve years and has earned her Silver Award. She has also received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award. She is a member of National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and the OHS French Club. She placed first in Introduction to Business at the Utah State Conference and was then able to attend the National Future Business Leaders of America Conference in Dallas, Texas in 2003. Brinn Bullough Brinn was born in Provo, Utah and is the daughter of Brad and Heather Bullough. She is the oldest of six children chil-dren in her family. She home-schooled home-schooled for nine years and is currently attending and plana to graduate from Timpanogos High School. Brinn enjoys reading and writing. The most recent books she has read are: An Old Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott and The Last of the Mohicans by James Fennimore Cooper. She has been studying martial arts for over seven years and actively paricipates in her church young women's program. pro-gram. She is also a member of the Spanish club. She loves planning and participating participat-ing in service projects. She is an avid seamstress and loves cooking, reading, talking, singing, playing the piano and dating. She enjoys traveling and learning about new cultures cul-tures and trying all kinds of new food. She hopes to graduate gradu-ate a semester early from high school next year and attend BYU. Her dream is to be a stay-at-home mom and wife while running a business out of her home altering and designing formal dresses. Ap 'A ', -y ' ' ' , y !? , ' Emmerin Day Emmerin Day was born on March 5, 1987 to Jordan and Jill Day. She was born and raised in Utah County, spending a lot of time with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Emmerin is currently cur-rently a student at Mountain View High School. She enjoys acting, singing in Ladies' Choir, playing violin in the Orchestra, and participating participat-ing in Model United Nations conferences. She plays the piano, does cross-stitch cross-stitch and embroidery, and loves reading. She enjoys family vacations, especially to the Oregon Coast, as well as hiking and rock-climbing with her family. Emmerin hopes to attend BYU and go on an LDS mission. She plans to be a teacher when she grows up. Alexana Neves Alexana Lanier Kawaihuaokalani Neves is the daughter of David Neves and Kate McMillan. She was born May 20, 1987 in Burlingam California and spent her first nine years in Heidelberg, Germany before moving to Orem, Utah. She is active in Mountain View's Theatre Department and enjoys reading, writing and studying History as well as camping, hiking, fishing and playing out-doors with her family and friends. Alexana loves to learn and work hard, continually throwing herself into numerous activities activ-ities and projects. A happy, energetic member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alexana enjoys the service and leadership lead-ership position she holds and is looking forward to refining her talents and becoming a more involved citizen of her state and country while attending Girls State. V) Christina Keller Chrissy, the daughter of Ivan and Judy Keller, is the youngest of ten children and the third in her family to attend GirlBoys State. Chrissy loves being a junior at Orem High School. Some of her hobbies include music, singing, playing the flute and penny-whistle penny-whistle (and mandolin with family bluegrass band)- acting, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. Chrissy is a strong leader and is very involved with school and community service. She was recently chosen to be the Senior Class vice-president. "" "'" ' ''''''' ID Lacey Peterson Lacey Jean Peterson was born in Aurora, CO to Robert and Nancy Peterson. She has lived in Burlington, CO; San Antonio, TX; Ft. Moroe, VA; Charlottesville, VA; Buckannon, WV and now Orem, Utah. She is a junior at Orem High School and is very involved. She participates in FBLA, FCCLA, HOSA, Debate, Drama, Choir, HUGS, and many other clubs. She is also Junior Class Secretary. She loves playing Lacrosse because of the people she has met, the opportunity to get in shape, and the life skills it teaches. She has obtained a 4.0 GPA throughout her junior year and hopes to keep it with her strenuous stren-uous senior schedule. Her goal in life is to help others, and that is why she wants to study psychology. She also hopes to eventually have a very large family. Sherstine Madsen Sherstine Madsen is the oldest daughter of Harold and Staci Madsen. She has been the recipient of the Ail-American Ail-American Scholar and National Leadership and Service awards, and was the 2002-2003 Most Outstanding Student of the Year in Foreign Language at Mountain View High School. She enjoys being actively involved in Mountain View's A capella choir, National Honor's Society, Model United Nations, French Club, of which she is the president, yearbook staff and Senate, and is a member of the Young DanceMakers company at BYU. She loves reading playing play-ing and teaching piano, and being with her friends and family. I i u ft I s Whitney Mason Whitney Mason is the daughter of Thomas and Wendy Mason of Orem, Utah. She is currently a Jr. at Orem High School with a 4.0 and a strong desire for excellence. She enjoys camping, boating, playing the piano, children, friends, and seminary. This year she is involved in FCCLA and Science Club. One of her favorite summer activities is working as a camp counselor at Clear Creek Summer Camp. Whitney love school and particularly par-ticularly enjoys her Sports Medicine and Biology classes. Some of her goals for the future include receiving her Young Women in Excellence Award, attending college to earn her nursing degree, raising rais-ing a family, serving a mission for the LDS church, and traveling travel-ing the world. She enjoy service serv-ice and loves making people smile. nil nhii Haley Warner A junior at Orem High School, Haley Warner has proven herself to be an "Ail-Around "Ail-Around Girl." In academics, she carries a 3,92 GPA, in Sports she plays Varsity Softball and was moved as a Freshman to the Varsity Soccer team, (winning JV MVP on the way). Haley was recently voted as next year's OHS Senior Class President. A high-energy girl, Haley also excels in art, cooking, acting, writing, writ-ing, singing, and in her church callings. She has won many blue ribbons for her artwork as well as her writing, ( and her four brothers and friends beg for her prize chocolate-chip cookies)! Upon graduating in Communications from college, Haley plans to work in the field of Television Broadcasting and is very excited to add the strengths she will gain from the Girl's State Experience. - .. 1 v ; t -iA- - Cydney Stevenson Cydney Leigh Stevenson was born in Brigham City Utah to her parents Kerry and Laurianne Stevenson. She is the forth of five girls. She currently cur-rently attends Timpanogos High School where she is serving serv-ing as Junior Class President She loves donating her to time when she can at the Dan Peterson School in American Fork. She enjoys politics and law, and she just finished an internship at Hill, Johnson & Schumutz law firm. She plans on attending law school and getting involved in politics. 1' |
