I 1e?ST Electricity is something few people can live without. It lights homes, runs businesses busi-nesses and makes lives a whole lot easier. But it also can be dangerous, especially to young children. Some people peo-ple don't realize that there is enough power present at every electrical outlet to cause serious injuries, or even death, if proper electrical electri-cal safety precautions are not taken. The start of a new year marks a good time to take stock of your electrical safety knowledge and make sure injuries caused by electricity elec-tricity are not part of your new year. "Many electrical accidents and fires happen in the home each year, but they are preventable," pre-ventable," said Amy Eschete, Utah Power public safely manager. "By using common sense and taking a little extra care when using electricity, elec-tricity, injuries and accidents don't have to happen." Utah Power offers the following tips for using electricity safely: Don't overload electrical circuits. This is a common cause of fires. Use outlet plug covers if you have small children in the house. Attach extension cords to appliances before plugging into outlets. Always dis connect by pulling on the plug, not the cord. Before repairing any appliance, unplug it. Use extension cords wisely. Never exceed the load rating, always throw away damaged cords and don't use extension cords as a replacement for permanent wiring. Use three-pronged grounded plugs only in three-prong outlets and never cut the third prong off of a plug. Never use electrical appliances near water. Use Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs)-outlets (GFCIs)-outlets with red and black "test" and "reset" buttons in bathrooms, garages, near kitchen sinks and outdoors, as they will shut off power during a short circuit or grounding event. Diabetic treatment saves lives Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics dia-betics now have new life-changing life-changing health choices. Channel 2, KUTV News ran a story about a revolutionary revolution-ary treatment for Diabetes. Because the treatment is now covered by insurance, it is spreading rapidly. Known as "Metabolic Activation Therapy", it is clinically proven to be a safe and effective way to shift body wide metabolism toward normal. The Bionica pump used in the treatment is now FDA approved. World Health Technologies, Inc., a Utah based. company is holding a seminar for diabetics, dia-betics, doctors and anyone who wants to learn how to stop, retard andor reverse the progress of Diabetes. The free seminar is being held at the Orem Sr. Friendship Center on 93 N. 400 E., Orem on Thursday, 5 February at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. There will be no products to buy. For more information call: (801) 794-9754. When performing electrical do-it-yourself projects around the home, always turn off circuit breakers end then test circuits to make sure they are de-energized before performing any work. Professional electricians can help make sure large projects are performed according to electrical codes for your home. "As a parent myself, one of my biggest concerns is electrical elec-trical safety around homes, especially other peoples' homes and hotels," said . Eschete. "If you have young children, be sure to baby-proof baby-proof your home because kids are fascinated with electrical cords and outlets. Maintain that awareness especially when you travel because those places typically won't have the same safeguards you have at home."
