"4- m . WW VJ On January 22, 2004, Madeleine Mahoney a Senior at Pleasant Grove High School won the American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest for District Four (Utah County). In the words of one judge, Madeleine's oration demonstrated her college-quality, maturity and scholarship. She will go on to represent repre-sent Utah County at the American Legion Department of Utah State Contest. The State Contest will take place in Salt Lake City at the VA Medical Center, 500 Foothill Drive, SLC on February 21, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. The public is invited. George Van De Water, Commander of American Legion Post 72 Orem, acted as the District Four Contest Chairman, Gary Schwartz, District Four's First Vice Commander represented the District Contest. Van De Water and Schwartz awarded the First Place Certificate to Miss Mahoney on the behalf of District Four's Commander Thad Jensen. Columbia College announces dean's list The following students have been named to the Columbia College Dean's List for the Late Fall Session 2003. Columbia College is a private coeducational institution which offers associate, baccalaureate bac-calaureate and master's degrees. Students may enroll in day, evening and distance education edu-cation courses at the home campus in Columbia, MO or at 31 extended studies sites around the country. Mark R. Bretzing and Kristine Thompson of Orem both were on that list. Jacob and Jeanna Mandeville of Provo also made the Dean's list. Orem High Hosts Kerry Summers In 1973, the first television televi-sion broadcast of a live concert con-cert was beamed around the world via satellite and an estimated 1.5 billion people watched Elvis Presley's Aloha from Hawaii. Award winning entertainer, Kerry Summers will emulate that concert in the voice, style and manner of Elvis, performing per-forming a concert that will benefit Orem High School's Golden Tiger Marching Band, directed by Paul Lemen and their Tigerettes Color Guard, directed by Nancy Cannon. The proceeds pro-ceeds from the concert will be used to purchase much-needed much-needed instruments, equipment equip-ment and uniforms, and to help with the expenses of forth-coming competitions, parades and events. Kerry Summers combines com-bines showmanship, authentic music and elaborate elabo-rate costuming in a show that allows a deeper insight into the life and music of Elvis Presley. Kerry fronts his own 11 member, "Burnin' Love Ensemble," including the world famous, "Knights of Freedom." By attending this concert, you will support a worthy cause and experience a memorable memo-rable evening. Kerry has delighted audiences throughout the USA and around the world. He is recognized rec-ognized for having, "...a voice as close to Elvis' voice as you can get." And, "When Kerry sings, it is like Elvis is in the room, himself, singing."
