The Thunder took second in pool play, but then defeated Salem Sa-lem 6-3 in the championship game. Scott Ford (Golden Glove winner), win-ner), Kevin Smith, Josh Benson and Corbin Carlson (Batting Champs) were all nominated for the All Tournament Team. Jordan Gillespie was named tournament MVP after pitching theThunder to the championship game victory. Gillespie also won the Home Run Contest, sponsored spon-sored by tournament officials. The Thunder played a great tournament, finishing a season that included going to Glenwood, Colo., St. George, and Henderson, Nev. The Thunder played a total of 65 games this summer. MVHS volleyball tryouts Tryouts for the defending state 5A runner-up Mountain View volleyball team begin Monday August 9 at 9 a.m. at the Mountain Moun-tain View High School gym. There will be three sessions held each day. Orem and Timpanogos High Schools set golf tryouts Tryouts for the Orem High School golf team will begin Mon day, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m at the Cascade Cas-cade Golf Course on 800 North in Orem. Tryouts for the Timpanogos High School golf team begin one week later, Monday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m., also at Cascade. Orem Dingers tryouts set The Orem Dingers, an AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) super league traveling baseball team is looking to expand their current team roster for the fall season. Team tryouts will be held August Au-gust 14, 1999. To be eligible, the participant's birthday must be after Aug. 1, 2000. If interested, please leave your name and phone number on the Dingers' hotline (801) 226-5462 and Coach Dan Laing will contact you with tryout details. 1999 Orem Youth Coed Softball league set The Orem Recreation Department Depart-ment will be offering a youth coed softball league this fall. Teams will play a regular season sea-son round robin and a post season sea-son tournament. Players are encouraged en-couraged to put together their own teams. Half of the participants partici-pants on the team must be male and the other half female, between be-tween the ages of 14 and 18. Games will be played at Windsor Park on Saturday mornings, beginning be-ginning September 11. Each team will be guaranteed 10 games. Registration will be taken Monday, Aug. 9 through Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Orem Fitness Center Cen-ter (580 West 165 South) The team fee is $150. Make checks payable to the City of Orem.
