Eric is the son of David and Susan Bednar of Rexburg, Idaho. PROVO Volunteers can assist with pre-festival activities and with the annual Timpanogos Storytelling Festival held August 26-28 in Orem. It is the largest storytelling festival west of the Mississippi and will feature eight nationally known story tellers. "Not only does the festival promote pro-mote cultural literacy," said Governor Gov-ernor Michael Leavitt, "but it is geared toward all ages to promote pro-mote language, literacy and art." Volunteers are vital to the suc-. suc-. cess of the fair, and this year volunteers vol-unteers are needed to help prepare pre-pare the festival and to work at the festival itself Before the festival starts, volunteers vol-unteers are needed to help with publicity and with distribution of flyers, posters and brochures. Volunteers are also needed to help with the physical setting: set up and takedown chairs, arrange trash boxes and create signs; arrange ar-range and organize the music . and food vendors; prepare tents and grounds, and organize lights, power and sound systems. - Volunteers are needed during the actual festival to serve as hosts and hostess in tents, masters mas-ters of ceremonies, merchandise cashiers, shuttle drivers, security workers, ticket sellers, food vendors ven-dors and medical assistants. "In the world of story telling, -the repute of Timpanogos is great," said Donald Davis, former board chairperson of the National Na-tional Storytelling Association. "It fills a geographic part of the country not filled by other major festivals, and each year people are coming from father and farther far-ther to be in attendance." Thus, those who volunteer for the festival fes-tival will have the opportunity to help people from, all over the country. Additional volunteer opportu- nities are available throughout ' Utah County. On Saturday, August 21, UAATA is sponsoring an Introductory Intro-ductory Animal Handler Skills Workshop taught by nationally certified instructors. This is an opportunity for volunteers and their pets to get involved in a rewarding re-warding service experience in their communities. This training will take place between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in West Jordan, Utah. The cost of the training is $50, and preregistration is recommended.
