Show s fountain Jubilee Choru offers free i group vocal A series of group vocal les-Ssnna les-Ssnna is beiner offered for sintrera a who want to join the Mountain Jubilee Chorus, internationally-ranked competitive worldwide chorus of Sweet Adelines International, the new "Fall Class of 97" membership program will begin in October with six free vocal lessons to ac- I quaint potential member with the barbershop style of singing. Mountain Jubilee Chorus is directed by Tori Postma, an accomplished quartet singer and a talented stage presence judge known both regionally and internationally. Postma will instruct in-struct the vocal lessons and the new "Fall Class of 97" membership member-ship program. According to Postma, barbershop bar-bershop harmony is different from church or traditional choral music (SATB music) because be-cause of unique chord structures that enable a "lock-and-ring" sound. In addition to singing a unique type of music, barbershop barber-shop choruses add showmanship showman-ship (choreography, costuming and emcee work) to most musical musi-cal performances. "We are excited to open membership to signers across the Wasatch Front and share our joy of music with others as they learn the barbershop art form," Postma added. Lessons will be held Tuesdays Tues-days and Thursdays, beginning October 28 at 7:00 p.m., and will continue for three weeks. The chorus rehearses every Tuesday at Sons of Utah Pioneers Building, Build-ing, 3301 East 2920 South, Salt Lake City. For more information, informa-tion, contact Alicia at 298-741G. Formed in 1960 (formerly "Bountiful Chorus"), Mountain Jubilee Chorus has consistently placed first and second place regionally, and fourth through tenth place internationally. As first-place Region 8 winners, Mountain Jubilee Chorus will represent Utah at the Sweet Adelines International Competition Com-petition held October 14-19, 1997 in Salt Lake City. Chartered 50 years ago, Sweet Adelines International has grown to more than 30,000 members worldwide and more than 600 chapters.
