Show Times Newspaper Orem swimmers swamp Cottonwood Orem High swimmers won a dual meet with Cottonwood High School last week. The girls came out on top with a 145-23 victory while the boys finished with a 103-66 win. The Tiger girls dominated the relay events finishing in the top four spots in all three relays. Jenny Sorensen and Melissa Ransom paced the girls with wins in two individual events. Melissa Belliston, Jordana Jor-gensen, Jor-gensen, Sharley Sabin, and Megan Daniel won their individual in-dividual events. The Orem boys came out on top in the 200 Medley and 400 Free relay, however, finished second to a strong Cottonwood High 200 Free relay team. Tyson Apostol finished first in both of his individual events. Steven Lau and Dan Balling recorded wins in one individual event. The Orem swimmers will meet Hillcrest this Thursday at the Orem Fitness Center. Region 4 teams swept their region 1 opponents in inter-region inter-region play, making region 4 the best-represented region in quarterfinal action. Mike Tanner, Orem's defensive standout, shared region MVP honors with Brighton running' back Reno Mahe (see accompanying accompany-ing story), The Tigers, co-region champs and second place finishers finish-ers in state play, were represented on both sides of the all-region team. Although it's still 'early for college recruiting, Barlow is looking at the University Univer-sity of Washington for post-high school play. Mountain View's Matt Rowe was honored twice by region 4 coaches. Rowe was named to the all-region squad as a wide receiver re-ceiver and a return specialist. "It's quite an honor because it's probably prob-ably the toughest region in the state," Rowe commented. Rowe had 901 yards and 47 catches for the Bruins who lost in the quarterfinals. Rowe is also looking look-ing at his post-graduation options at schools like BYU and Ricks. . This is a Freestyle Frees-tyle Wrestling Team and experience ex-perience is not necessary, but certainly helpful. This is a very competitive wrestling program. Tryouts will be held at the Orem Recreation Center at 6:30 p.m. Monday Dec. 9th for all 5-8 year olds; Tuesday Dec. 10th for 9 and older and Wednesday Dec. 11 will be make-up for all ages. The wrestling season runs from January 1, 1997 to April 12, 1997. The team travels to tournaments throughout the state held on Saturdays.
