Orem 9-year olds win state championship The "Orem Buzz," 9-year old baseball team finished first place in the State at the recent (AAU) Amateur Athletic Union tournament held in Kearns. The "Orem Buzz" played five games in the tournament, facing teams from Foothill, South Jordan, Jor-dan, Alta, and two Taylorsville teams. Coach Heriford says that this team is special. "Occasionally, "Oc-casionally, regardless of age, a group of players is assembled that has the whole package. Not only are these kids going back to Arkansas as an undefeated team, but as a coach, I am really impressed with their poise and confidence. They know how to win yet they have a blast doing it. With 20 kids on the roster, I must also mention how pleased I am with the way the players treat their teammates on and off the field. Thirty-five OTC athletes qualified to compete at this prestigious event. Centennial program at Strawberry The Uinta National Forest ' will be hosting an evening campfire program on July 20, 1996 at Strawberry Reservoir in celebration of Pioneer Day and Utah's Centennial. The program pro-gram is entitled "Community Celebrations and Cultural Identity: Iden-tity: Pioneer Day in 19th Century Cen-tury Mormonism." It will begin at 9 p.m. at the Strawberry Bay Amphitheater in Strawberry Bay Campground. The purpose of the club is to promote safe biking, introduce people to trails, socialize, and have plenty of fun. Anyone desiring to be involved in-volved in this exciting and often challenging activity are welcome wel-come to participate. Jeff Nielsen, Niel-sen, an experienced mountain biker and mechanic, will lead each excursion. To be a part of the two-hour outings, participants par-ticipants will meet at Bikeworx each Thursday at 6 p.m. On the rides, club members will negotiate the local streets, tracks, valley and mountain trails, appealing to most levels of biking experience.
